my friend has a 97 cavalier z24 the problem is is theres no compression at all... at first i thought it would be the valves or a head gasket but some one told me that it could be that the timeing is off but if that were true wouldnt the pistons hit the valves???? idk it has us stumped can any one shine some light on this???

Does your compression gauge work, even if it has a blown headgasket, it should make some inkling of some sort of compression, if the timing belt is off, then atleast 1 if not 2 cylinders should be closed or closed to closed and should show some compression.

2.4 is a timing chain setup. pretty rare for them to go even with them having high miles
