A woman I know on a dog message board lost everything today in the fires in California. She could only take so much stuff at one time, so she grabbed her dogs (forgot their meds) and went to load up horses. Only one was still alive. She got him out okay. She lost everything else. She had only the clothes on her back. She had bags packed by the front door, but authorities wouldn't let her back to get them.
She lost 5 horses, 1 cat, and all other possessions. :(

I have basically nothing... but I'd hate to lose it. Those fires in Cali right now are serious.

seems every year in California it is either fires or landslides.

thank goodness for closeknit groups. Everyone on the board is gathering up clothes and gift cards and mailing them to another board member that lives nearby. Her Vet office burned down, too, so she has no records to be able to obtain the meds one of her dogs needs. She was able to get one of the meds, but the other is strictly regulated or something, so she's having a hard time.
For christ sake, she doesn't even have a place to sleep tonight.

I'm sorry to hear about the woman and her animals.
As for california and fires that is alot of thier own fault. They have regulated logging and forest clearing so much that you have alot of dry wood and debris. That state is known to make decisions that end up being wrong but take awhile to correct them. (think mountian lions if you think i'm mistake)
Hope they ease their laws on logging and hope that it gets these fires back under control.

Leave it to you to be a dick. The shit is spreading very, very fast. She even hooked up to her horse trailer LAST NIGHT in preparation. She had help at the time that she left. She left as soon as she was told she needed to, and that was all that could be saved.
How about you think before posting? Or just go fuck yourself. Whichever.

You know what pisses me off? All I see on the news of this tonight is, "oh no, which movie celebrities are being affected?" Who the fuck cares, those fucks all have two, three, four plus houses and money means nothing to them.....I'm personally pretty much fucking sick of rich fuck celebrities and I can name a few I wish burned up in the fires along with their mansions....

Yeah, I know about half a dozen women from that board that live in that area, and all are "regular" people. BTW, just found out the lady was able to find a hotel. Most hotels are booked up.

Also found out that the reason she had such short notice was because she was out helping others transport their horses to safety since she had a truck and trailer. She didn't know her farm was in immediate danger.
So there ya go. She lost everything because she was helping others. Say something else, asshole.

topher, that sucks. Same thing happened to the husband's uncle, about the same time as you, too.
It almost happened to me and my mom. It was a mobile home with an attached garage, and dipshit ex was working on a motorcycle inside the garage, trying to get it to start, with a can of gasoline right next to it. It backfired or something??? Gas can exploded. Garage went up in flames. Thank god for good neighbors. Everyone was hauling fire extinguishers over.
Do you know how fast a trailer burns?? We were damn lucky that only the garage burned. My bedroom was the closest, with my closet butting up to the garage, and I had to wash all my clothes because of the smoke smell.

A little more clarity...
Rhonda made 4 trips I think -- getting horses into the trailer and to Del Mar and back. She would have made more if she could have. The ranch hands moved her vehicle -- she didn't get back to pack her stuff, she got two horses instead.
She was scared, fire was all around her. She was doing this alone. I don't know why she was doing this alone, but she was, and she was scared to death. She blames herself for not making it back another time.
She tried to leave with all of the animals -- her's and the ranch's. She had the 3 dogs loose in the cab of the truck with her -- their crates were in her SUV.
More...maybe this will help Shinyside understand.
Rhonda started moving horses before the Ranch was even in danger. When she went back, the winds picked up and all hell broke loose within minutes. The fire at that time was moving more than 50 mph.
When she left with the first load, no fire in sight, when she got back the mountain was on fire
The one horse that died that was hers, she's had since she was a teenager.

I have been listening to streaming audio from the local NBC news station.....My mom lives near Otay Lake, just outside Chula Vista in one of the canyons. Her fire is the Harris Fire. I have been constantly watching online beacause the media coverage is shitty. I was on call last week, and never heard a thing about it on the radio. She said today she went to the grocery store and the sheves were empty. It is definitely a mess over there.
If anyone is interested:

Damn. Hope your mom is safe. It's crazy out there. Everyone evacuated to "safe" areas, and now the "safe" areas are being evacuated. Imagine losing your home, finally finding a hotel with a room, then you have to pack up and try to find another hotel with a room available all over again.
Check this out..there was someone on the dog board that is a long time lurker and saw what was going on and got Rhonda into a hotel, paid for, FOR A WEEK!! And it's near where her horses are. Sometimes, people rock.

Thanks guys...I just talked to her tonight, they were evacuated early this morning, but allowed back in at 3:30 PST. I am actually going out there for Thanksgiving, so I will get to see the damage 1st hand. She was very bummed, thinking my family and I would not get to go out there because they would not have a home. So far, she has been very, very, lucky. The fires are only 10% contained, so, they are all still in danger.
