i see it as a good thing. prob the top 2 tuners in the US and now they are in the same place. doug knows his stuff very well and i have experienced Scott's tuning skills many times with my suby. Scott and his wife have been wanting to slow the car thing down for awhile so Scott can be home and look to start a family. family comes first.
congrats to scott !! with scott and doug working together projects and learning from each other, they are going to make some awesome #'s

prob the top 2 tuners in the US
Ah... no :)
Not even close to the top 2 Subaru tuners in the US, let alone general tuners.

and, jblaine.... who are the best? b/c i think it all comes down to preferences. Have you been tuned by both guys? who else have you been tuned by?

They are the best in the Southeastern region for sure.

I can promise you the ones out west do not compare;)

I am NOT bashing SS nor Doug. Let's be clear. Someone made an amazingly bold statement and I provided a so-called "cough*bullshit*cough".
The 2 best tuners in the US? Let's not get carried away folks...
I don't think SS or Doug would EVER agree with that suggestion. Not even while drunk in private with 1 other person.
jblaine
10-18-2007, 10:47 AM
They are the best in the Southeastern region for sure.
That's something I could at least consider as a possibility.

and, jblaine.... who are the best? b/c i think it all comes down to preferences.
How does "best" come down to preferences?
"Best" means one thing in the tuning world. It doesn't mean "nicest" or "most accomodating" or "inexpensive" or "best at road tuning VF39 setups"
Don't look at me. I'm not the one who said "probably the 2 best tuners in the US". Ask faded how he came to that conclusion, not me ;)
Have you been tuned by both guys? who else have you been tuned by?
I tuned my Hydra myself and had Phil Grabow from Element Tuning check it out on the dyno up at CFT.
Prior to that I had Franz @ KTR Performance (http://www.ktrperformance.com/) in MA do an EcuTek tune on my old setup in early 2003.

just stating my opinion. personal preference as well.
you say who you liked tuning your car and i stated mine.
is there a true way to know unless you have had EVERY tuner tune your car? jblaine, your answer is a useful as mine. you provided your preference, i provided mine.

wow, is all i have to say here.
kindergarden 101: "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all."
Read back on what you wrote. Tell me that wasnt turning the tides on bashing.
Anyway, lets all give scotty-do a welcoming on going to topspeed. Hey guys, thats gonna free up more time on his schedule to come and see all of us. He is now back to answering his phone and emails like he use to. Thats awesome. Good for him. I talked to him yesterday and he sounds good.

10-18-2007, 01:52 PM
Uhh... no, it wasn't bashing at all. I'm sorry you feel it was. I didn't say a single negative thing about either tuner. I commented, pretty clearly, that I totally disagreed with the idea that SS and Doug were "probably the top 2 US tuners".
This is exactly why I stopped posting in here 2 years ago. It's nearly impossible to talk objectively with any of you. It's all one big protective kool-aid drinking Subaru-pride festival. It's the same reason I've been to exactly 1 meet.
I made a mistake by posting. Later.

well, we all want to be on the same terms and all be friends. I know you disagree, but you dont have to go sour with it. You took alot into effect and told some people off. Scott is a good friend of mine. And the things you said hurt me as well. As i said its all preference. You didnt have to say the things you said. basically, you didnt have to write in the post.
When the post is about scott changing directions, you dont write about how bad a person is and claim they are terrible at tuning. Again, if you have nothing nice to say, dont say it at all.
stiscooby
10-18-2007, 02:00 PM
where was your input about scott changing directions with companies? He said that he wanted to spend more family time and topspeed can provide that. So, out of his religious heart he wanted to free up more time in his life to provide his services to his family and society.
stiscooby
10-18-2007, 02:02 PM
Sorry you dont want to agree and want to be objective, but this isnt a topic about how bad a bov is on a car. Again, this is about scotts change in life. So, you changed tides in the post and directed this off course
stiscooby
10-18-2007, 02:06 PM
Im sorry you dont get along with all of us. Maybe with less objection, you would understand us at the level we all sit at.
SS is on both sides of the coin and provides objection in a non aggressive manner to help us choose the right direction. This is why we like scott. He will help you chose the parts and pieces that will work great with the car. HE will discuss with you on what is right and wrong.
Sure, many tuners will do this. But, out of the faint of heart, this is about SS, not anyone else. I will support him till the cows come home. Is there someone "better" than him? yea, probably. But i will never know until i try others. Doug didnt do so hot on my car and thus i switched. Scott has tuned my car a few times and so far so good. Preference ftw.
Again, good luck scott

Matt,
I have to agree with Jeff here. He was stating disagreement with the statement made. He was in no way bashing anyone. I think you and James (to some degree) are the one who took it personally and "sour". I would have to think Scott is modest enough to agree with Jeff's post " I don't think SS or Doug would EVER agree with that suggestion (that they are the best)".
Do I think SS is fantastic? Yes indeed! :D He would not have tuned my car multiples times if not. He would not be tuning it again in the relative near future if not. :)
Realize Jeff is a very logic based person and take his statements that way. :)
Scott, congratulations! It's great to see a man of values not only say his family is his priority, but actually do it. Very much lacking in today's world. :)

hey, thats all i needed to hear. Well, not everyone knows jeff to your extent. So, i will say sorry for what i said and sorry for all the things jeff has said. I just think a less "brunt force" way of saying things would have been better. But, i guess whatever suits your fancy when it comes to talking.

dear god.... how come every time SS is mentioned an argument breaks out? He is a nice guy and a good tuner. Stop starting shit. Matt is right in saying don't say anything if you don't have something nice to say.
If you are a "blunt force" type of guy, expect controversy to what you say. Don't be surprised that you are misunderstood, because you bring that on yourself.

just for the record, i didnt take what jblaine said sour.
we both stated our opinions and thats cool. everyone has their own preferences and thats fine by me :) anyone who can do a good job tuning suby's and make big #'s is ok in my book.

Thanks guys. I believe this will be a good move for me. As I said in the other threads, I have the highest respect for what goes on at BG, it's just not the direction that I'm going.
With Doug and I working together we will be able to have one person travel, while the other still supports local customers at home. I'm actually starting Thursday there at TopSpeed and I should have more time to directly support customers...

damn, everyone is so sensitive when it comes to comparing or discussing tuners. Jblaine, I would like to see you post up more. I know you have stayed away from the site lately and don't post but I know your input will be helpful on many topics. I guess most the people on here now don't know your experience with Subies.
Anyway, best of luck to SS on the new move. I am sure both him and Doug will just get better now that they are together and sharing tuning tip and such.

welcome back, I hope! We need differing opinions on here, its not fun if everyone completely agrees with everyone else, but on the flip side I understand why you've avoided the site lately, I think alot of people have been getting turned off by the site recently due to the high-school-like arguements and such.
