maybe lifters..

is it a stock cam? how long has it been doing this?
is the ticking the same all the time everyday, or does it change?

if nothing else seems wrong and you are not losing any performance, maybe just try a thicker oil. I know with the 4g63 the lifters tick very loud naturally. I dont know about the 420a.

Its called hydraulic lifters. They all do that and it is VERY common in all mitsu's. Im not sure about the 420a but for the 4g there is a cure thanks to the 3g big bore lifters. You can try flushing them out, cleaning them, or a couple other fixes but nothings permanent.

umm... sell the eclipse and get a honda, and it will last forever.

thats a permanent fix

I'm getting the 3g revised lifters, should run pretty quiet with some Royal Purple 10-40

For the 420a 2.4l lifters are an upgrade. That what i installed when i built my motor. I still get some minor noise but nothing to worry about
