10MP seems fancy but correct me if im wrong won't be a huge notch up from your lower (5+)MP P&S's :dunno:

they are actually a pretty cool camera. Awesome learning camera for making the transition from P&S to SLR.

My sister had one when she took photo classes and let me play with it when she wasent using it and that how I learned most of what I know. My only complaint is that the view finder is a digital lcd screen, so basically you have your regular lcd like most digital p&s and then a smaller lcd for the view finder. It takes a while to get used to that but other wise its a nice camera.

practically a slr without interchangable lenses.

single-lens reflex.

+1.

They are just nicer cameras, for more advanced photography.

the camera uses mirrors inside the body.

this is the best picture I could find to describe it.

Cross-section view of SLR system:
1 - Front-mount Lens (4 element Tessar design)
2 - Reflex Mirror at 45 degree angle
3 - Focal Plane Shutter
4 - 35mm Film or Sensor
5 - Focusing Screen
6 - Condenser Lens
7 - Optical Glass Pentaprism (or Pentamirror)
8 - Eyepiece (can have diopter correction ability)
