We're going to document the whole build here. Kevin is a great friend of ours. So we cant wait to finish this
We started gathering all of Kevin's parts. We're getting them organized. Took everything off the block. Cleaned off all the gaskets. Took it down to the machine shop to clean up. Tomorrow we're going to install the block guard, have the head resurfaced, cylinders honed/bored out to 83mm and an align hone

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm sure Kevin will be happy. Him and I always use to talk about what we were doing next. To this day he is the best run I ever had
We just finished cleaning up the main caps, cleaning up the crank journals and going over the crank journals. Main journals were within two thousandth of each other. Rod journals were within one thousandth of each other. Going to have the crank micropolished next week

Thanks. We're trying :D The whole setup still has to be discussed with everyone and Kevin's family. The goal is to put the car in the 10's. With the weight of the car that should be fairly easy with a good suspension setup and slicks. So I would leave the stock ports with a three angle valve job, itr or Skunk2 cams, dual valve springs, titanium retainers, etc.

I'd rather port the head and use stock cams...costs less and then leaves room for more potential (but that's just me)...making 10's is going to be cake walk...you don't even need to go into the head to do that.

True we could do it on on a stock head but I would rather replace the retainers, springs, etc. with new parts. Not being oem. And there is always room for more if they decide that

personally I would do everyting to the head but itr cams...I will garauntee more power and a broader torque curve than just valves, pocket port, spring/retainers and a cam...
port it and deshroud it with the ITR cams
I've done it both ways on the flowbench and on the dyno.

Wow. I never met Kevin, but I'm sure he was a great guy, I haven't ever heard a bad thing about him. I'm sure he is up there smiling, and happy knowing he had friends that cared this much to continue the build-up of his bad-ass car.
I can't wait to see some updates with the build, and hopefully see some video of this thing hitting 10's.
Good luck with the build! I'm sure it's been mentioned but what size turbo are you guys going to use?
homemade wrx

without giving out too much...ported (by an experienced hand and verified on a bench), 5-angle valve job(angle make a difference), toss in bronze valve guids if money isn't an issue (normall $8'ish a piece) oversized valves and deshrouding with a Serdi (bits makes a difference too).
the other perk, aside form making a broader taller torque curve, is if you choose that you want to go even bigger, it is just a cam install away

yeah, they flow pretty well for a stock head but leave some to be desired...K-series heads are even better out the box but the same applies...
the nice ecotec heads supposedly flow 400 out of the box but I've never seen any numbers or flowed them myself...
It sounds like Kevin must have been a great guy. Glad to see his car is getting done.

KEVIN WAS A GREAT GUY WHO HAS GREAT FRIENDS AND A MOTHER AND BROTHER THAT WILL MAKE HIS DREAM COME TRUE. NOTHIN BUT THE BEST FOR MY ANGEL IN THE SKY.
CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW HAPPY HE IS UP THERE ,EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT HE PROBABLY DOESN'T AGREE WITH ME SPENDING AS MUCH MONEY AS HE WOULD HAVE ON HIS CAR...... BUT LIFE IS WAY TO SHORT AND THIS IS MY GOAL IN LIFE . ..SLO-SI WILL BE IN THE 10'S AS WELL AS A SHOWCASE CAR..............
AS ALWAYS, MUCH GRATITUDE TO MY BOYS, WITHOUT YOU GUYS I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN WHO TO TRUST WITH THIS PROJECT.
