this one is fearless! the camera was about 4 inches from him when i took that. at one point, he was flying around real slow like and i stuck out my hand and he landed on my hand!
i call him bill.

See, that's why they're so cool. And then you won't see one up close like that for a long time, and then bam..another close encounter. It's almost like they're something from a fairy tale come true.

Step off, Bitch!
Hey, nothing wrong with flutterbugs. I've got a flutterbug garden going in my back yard. I've got tons of Monarchs, Sulphurs, Gulf Frits, Pipevine swallowtails, Black Eastern swallowtails and giant swallowtails. I get a real kick out of watching them go through the different stages of metamorphosis. It's nothing but magic. I started up the flutterbug gardening several years ago as a way to pay Mother Nature back for all those flutterbugs that bought the farm in my intercooler and on my windshield. (Well, that and I just like saying, "swallowtail")
BTW, that one looks like an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

Thats cool. The last one i seen smashed off my helmet visor over the weekend at about 80mph. Don't think it turned out good for it. Lucky i had my visor down though as i had it up just a few miles before that. Butterfly almost owned me....
