I did (do) just not ready yet, and I really fell in love with the whole planted tank thing once I saw this one set up.

I'm getting it all ready to add the "real" fish. I'll post pics when I get them. :-)

Here's one of the Clown Loaches:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/forddna/Fishies/120%20Gallon%20Freshwater%20Tank/ClownLoach2.jpg

He's about 2.5" long and could get to be huge! He's a lighter color than this..didn't show up well.

Also if ya start seeing leaves with chunks missing yank that big ass snail out, they sometimes eat leaves...some snails do and some dont so just keep an eye ball on him!!! :D

One keeps making laps around the glass, and the other is in the rocks somewhere. He really likes the rocks and wood for some reason! I almost panicked when the one on the glass got onto the suction part of Emperor, but he kept moving, so I knew he was okay!

that's a really nice tank! i just have a 75 gallon now, but that's only because that's all my floor can support without shoring. i'm waiting till we buy our next house to upgrade the tank. i'd like to get a 250 gallon. we've got some badass fish though... even a freshwater stingray. we've got a few dragon fish, a couple south african featherfin catfish, ghost knifes, some BIG bala sharks (6"+), a couple placo's (one is 8" long), a mean ass breeding pair of large angel fish, spotted catfish, and even three green spotted puffer fish (you really have to watch your ph with these guys). i like it, but it's still not enough.

can't wait to see what your "real fish" are.

that's the biggest canopy I've ever seen. I thought I was viewing it upside down.

Ford DNA

Turbo, that sounds really cool. Take some pics!

The fish I'm going to put in there are Discus. No particular ones picked out..they are all really awesome. I just have to get my ph down from 7.5 to the 6.5 range for them. It's been hard finding fish that are okay at 6.5, peaceful, and don't eat plants to go in there with them!!

Are you using a chiller? I thought Discus were a colder water fish? not for sure though...

Stoopid Wendy

loaches and snails don't mix. loaches will eat snails. and even if the snail is large, the loach will chip away at their shell to get at the meat. they can chip away at rock and shells by "popping" their jaws. if you hear popping and clicking noises coming from your tank, check on your snails. ;)

i have a 150 gal and my clowns decimated my batch of snail breeders.

look here for lots of info on loaches: The Loach Almanac — Loaches Online (http://www.loaches.com/care/the-loach-almanac)

good luck and keep us updated!

TurboRanger91
09-17-2007, 01:43 PM
my ghost knifes were the same. i have a brackish tank, so i can have certain salt water fish. i had a starfish and the ghost knifes killed it within a couple of days.

also, i had a clown loach at one time and the sharks killed it... for a fish to last in my tank, he's pretty much gotta be a badass. lol.

Ford DNA
09-17-2007, 03:41 PM
Right now, my snails are huge, and my loaches are tiny, especially the yoyos. They're itty bitty. If it gets to be a problem, I'll move the snails.

Discus are warm water fish. 80-85 degrees. Spent $90 on heaters today.

Discus are going in there with the fish I already have..2 clown loaches, 2 yoyo loaches, 4 neon tetras, 4 glolite tetras, 6 painted tetras, 4 bloodfin tetras, 2 dwarf gouramis. The dwarfs are the only peaceful gouramis.

Ford DNA
09-17-2007, 03:42 PM
And all of those fish are good with about 80 degree water, 6.5 ph, and they shouldn't eat my plants or attack each other.

TurboRanger91
09-17-2007, 03:54 PM
sounds like you've done your homework on this. good luck and have fun with it. i sit and watch my fish tank like it's tv sometimes.

Ford DNA
09-17-2007, 04:08 PM
Me too. My clown loaches are funny to watch, and sometimes one will pair off with a yoyo and it looks like they're playing tag! And my fruit/painted tetras kind of school a little, so there is always a cluster of color somewhere.

I like to glance over and see where the snail has moved to. One is usually hidden, and the other is more mobile..I like to watch him.

Ford DNA
09-17-2007, 04:23 PM
Anybody know if big snails sold in pet stores are okay for koi ponds?

Stoopid Wendy
09-17-2007, 04:34 PM
pearl gouramis are peaceful gouramis and beautiful to boot.

Ford DNA
09-18-2007, 04:09 PM
Ohhh..I forgot about them. Thank you! Wish I had read this before I went to the store today. Oh well.

I added:

2 more clown loaches
1 spiny pleco (getting rid of the 2 snails)
2 german blue rams
2 false bandit cory cats

Here's a pic of what the cats look like (from the net, not my actual fish)

German Blue Rams:

Amanda, how many fish ya got in there now???

Ill be setting my 90 up the end of the week so ill post pics, Im not sure if Im going to make another stand and canopy like that one...

Ford DNA
09-18-2007, 04:59 PM
6 paints
8 neon/glolites
4 clown loach
2 cory
1 pleco
4 bloodfin tetra
2 rams
2 yoyo loaches
2 red flame drawf gourami

So..31. Sure doesn't seem like there's 31 fish in there! The bloodfins and the 8 I got from you are pretty small, though, so that's 12 that are barely noticeable. Then the 2 yoyos are tiny. Gouramis are shy and hide a lot.

The most interesting ones are definitely the clowns, the false bandit corys and the paints.

864I'DCaprI
09-18-2007, 05:00 PM
You have another 70 to go, well thats if there small sized!! LOL

Show us some updated pics!!! So ya still like the stand and canopy??

TurboRanger91
09-18-2007, 05:10 PM
i know they're small, but check your ph level often. with that many fish producing waste, it rises quickly.

oh, and i still don't see the link... maybe i'll see it on my laptop when i get home (a lot of crap gets blocked here at work.).

Mostly. The ones I got today are from Marine Warehouse. Then I got the 2 yoyos and one paint from a store in town here (shitty store).

Marine Warehouse had some huge Clown Loaches, but they were $50 each! These little dudes are $10 each and supposedly they grow fast, so..I went teh cheaper route!

Yes! They have a whole section of plants. And they have some GORGEOUS, big angelfish in a couple of the plant tanks for sale. The guy said they would kill the neons, but were okay with anything bigger. But I'd want to look into that myself. A couple of them were solid black..omg..gorgeous..

It's 1.5 west of the Veterans, btw. Easy drive for you.

Oh, and yes, still very happy with everything!!!

werd. 4x2x2

The only thing I would do differently (so far) is I would go with an 18" tall tank next time. I can only reach the bottom from the front to about 4 inches back. I had one of those tall plants uproot and there was no way I could put it back where it was! I stuck it back in the front of that group, but I wasn't able to do it the way you told me, Mike. I just had to gently force it into the gravel holding it about 3" above the roots.

Oh, and if you get ready to go to MW, PM me or e-mail and I'll tell you exactly which fish they have in stock and which that they don't. Same for Pet City, where I met you before. Petco also has a few nice ones.

Ford DNA
09-18-2007, 06:03 PM
Turbo, this is an extremely peaceful grouping of fish, in case you are wondering. I specifically searched for peaceful, not likely to eat my live plants, okay with 6.5 ph, good with 80 degree water..
