I dont know if this has been suggested before, or even tried before, but i figure we could have a real simple member directory. No random posts, just 1 post per TR member. in that post would be Name, City, Vehicle(s), maybe a brief description of the vehicle, and a clear picture of said vehicle. I think this is a good idea because it could cut back on threads like "does anybody know this person in this car" yada yada. Also, it would be a way for members to know who they are talking to. They could go to Advanced Search, click on "member directory" in the box on the right, and then type in "Black jetta" or "GST racer" and the member directory would have the needed info.
if this sounds like a good idea and it could be done, i would be happy to be a mod for the Tampa Racing Member Directory.

ok well this wouldnt be a stolen car directory, and we wouldnt post stolen cars.
there are a little 44,000 members on this site. i dont know if that includes TampaForums also though. but for the benefit of the doubt, lets say 44,000 members on TR. id say probably only 5,000 members regularly post. so 5,000 posts in a directory thread. (tell me if im wrong). yeah it might be a big thread, but so are the "Post pics of your favorite female", "WTF are you listening to RIGHT NOW", and "Say Something About..." threads.
a member directory thread wouldnt necessarily be anything more than just a reference thread. people that are bored can browse through it and get to know who they are communicating with somewhat. and if you need to know something about someone, just look their username up in the Advanced Search. this thread would also help those awkward moments when you are talking to a member and all you know them by is GST RACER, or Chillllll, or Usuck lol. it could put a real name to the user name.
i think it would help.

why not make a whole new section at the bottom or something, and everyone can make separate threads. that way you dont have to scroll through a huge thread to find someone.

what would the title of each individual thread be? "tampa bay representin in da hizouse babbbaaayyyy!!!", "yo whaddup", "My stats ;-)", and "my ride".
it would get too out of control as far as titles go, Ive seen the titles of threads already. it would get too confusing.
the only way that individual thread idea would work is if for the title of the thread, the person put their user name. that would be a good idea then. the moderator could then go through and alphabetize the list according to username...if thats possible.
ok, all details aside, does the idea of a member's directory sound good at all? regardless of how big it would be or how its setup or whatever, does it seem like something that would be worth doing?

after thinking about it, i think a member directory would be a bad idea. for the sake of stolen cars, i say we scrap the idea.

ok ive thought some more and i think we need the member directory. the moderator could keep out spammers and make sure it stays clean and organized. lets do it!!!

so can you explain why a picture of a car would cause a car to get stolen? maybe im not understanding what you guys are saying.

so you dont think putting one's personal info out (such as your real name, where you live, and what car you drive as well as pictures of it) would make it more liable to get stolen from the NUMEROUS thieves who use TR as a classifieds?

and we already had something like this in place...a members list...with links to that persons TR garage...and oh..the biggest one of all...the almighty search button...
this "help thread" is just a cheap ploy to try and get yourself a lil green name

i dunno what bug crawled up your ass, but i came up with an idea that i thought would be helpful. i could care less who mods it, and i certainly dont care to be mod. i just thought that if its something to help others out, there had to be someone out there who would deal with the bullshit that is TR.
and to be frank with you....uh, frank, (lol) almost everyone has a picture of their car in their sig anyways. and they have a (usually legitimate) location on the left side under thier username. a member directory would only put all that info into one spot.

yea, i'm working on getting the hamster out (the one that crawled up my ass)...
anyways keep throwing out ideas, it may just work out if you can get it down to a specific (yet non specific) detail...
in fact, why dont you start a thread in general car chat to test it out.

heres shinmei point. i see you (gst racer) all the time (ie QS&L, seminole bvld.)but you have no idea who i am or what i drive. and for a members directory i wouldnt post up my info for everyone to see
edit:*whispers* its because you have a giant picture of your car in your sig

^ +1. If I wanted to steal, lets say a black gst with silver hp racing wheels and a front mount, I would follow steve home from quaker and steal it some other time. People post pictures of their cars in members rides all the time, and most of them have their location posted under their avatar, so if your theory is correct than we would have alot more stolen cars on TR. My car is a PICTURE WHORE and everyone knows I'm in palm harbor---my car isnt stolen yet...

which actually leads me to believe a theory ive been working on. nobody steals dsms because they crankwalk. with a thief's luck, he would be the one to throw a piston through the oil pan, and not steal anything worthwhile.
i was thinking along the same lines as dane. i dont think its commonplace to see a car on tr, and then stalk that car and find where its kept and plan to steal it. if that was the case, i think a lot more cars would be stolen. no offense to anybody at all, BUT, if that was how car thieves worked, they could take one look at dane's car, they know from a lot of his threads that the car is now awd, so its something special. he still has his car though, and thousands of other members.
shinmei has a good point also, though. having a member directory that is set up like i explained in the OP would be like a nice little black book for someone to look at and study. they could see shinmei's ride, im guessing by your sig, a red 240. Ok, OHH and he lives in riverview. so they patrol around riverview for a while til they see a red 240 (this is a "for instance", granted there are many 240's) then they just follow him around kinda, and see where he goes.
so yeah, the member directory could be dangerous. maybe it could be just name and ride, and a picture. not a location. i think if someone is going to go to the trouble of stealing a car, they would just spot it someplace and go from there, not from a website. so if the M.D. doesnt give out any locations, it could be almost like a thread full of sig pictures lol.

^ dont worry he isnt stalking you, its just that the cars we drive aren't whored out and are a little easier to notice and remember than lets say...a honda. people tell me they see me all over the place too
