View Full Version : The Drama Cycle ?

After being online now for six years:crack: :nerd: I have noticed I have gone through a few cycles. The vast majority of my online activity has of course been here.
What I mean by this is in the first few years or so online I got along with everyone and was in a learning mode both for car stuff and internet concerns.
Then I had several years of getting mixed into a fair share of drama. A good part of it I guess was the blunt way I replied and dealt with some people then it got misinterpreted, but a lot of it was from others egging me on, I should have been the bigger man but we all know how that goes at times. Why I became a magnet for this is something I have mixed ideas about and is another long winded topic for another day.
Now over the last few years I have found myself staying further and further away from anything that could turn into drama. I have the occasional flare up or bad day that most of us have (some more than others ) but I am even having those type of days less and less. I do not know the exact reasoning behind this but I like it more than the drama days. Maybe it is simply just maturity. But I find myself going out of my way to be nice to just about everyone, even people I had stupid issues with in the past. I do not see me going back to the polarizing person I was.
Now am I completely off my rocker here and thinking to much or has anyone experienced this with themselves too ? If so where are you at right now ?
One thing is for sure, I still type way to much. :lmao: I have to be loosing a lot of people riddled with A-D-D with posts like this.

I hear ya. Its difficult to come off as anything but a dick if you dont kiss peoples asses online. Most havent figured out when someones joking. Who would believe Im a fun-loving good-natured guy?
Keep up the good work Scott, I even think better of you the last two years.
Thick skin helps.

Check out the first post I ever made on TR. Go ahead. Search for it.
Its been 4 years since I made that post....I was just a 16 year old punk back then.
I haven't changed at all :-D Fuck all of you.

Thanks man.
You are right, many people have a hard time filtering sarcasm.
If I have anything it is thick skin. Between having to mod/admin stuff on TR/TF and then having to listen to it afterwords plus being a property manager there is not much that gets to me anymore.
Problem is people absorb unspoken words differently. You may reply to something and one person thinks you are a cocksucker while ten others get what you are trying to say and take no offense.
I do not think ass kissing is necessary either, I know I am not one for it and I do not see much of it around here. Now sack riding, oh damn we have some drivers and riders around here. :D ;)

I went through the same thing on a dog message board. Used to just sit back and soak all the info up, get to know the other people, etc. Then the drama...let me tell you, it can get pretty fun! There are some reaaaaaaaal nutcases out there. But we'll end up with these megathreads with a few thousand posts and if you can't devote a couple hours a day to reading..forget it. Anyway, now I mostly read what I can, contribute what I can, and stay out of the drama. Most of the time. :D

i find this is what gets me into trouble most.
without knowing someone, it's hard to sometimes get "how" they might be saying what they are typing.. (did that make sense).
whereas if the exact same thing were said in person it would be clear as a bell..
more of a lurker now with an occasional bleh...
happy landings...

I agree - knowing who you're talking to really helps you put things into proportion. Me saying "I'll kick you in the nuts!" is a lot more comical than, say, Lumberjack saying it.

^ Which is why I use smileys so much. Got to be a habit on the dog boards, since it's mostly women, and we can be quite bitchy and occasionally overly sensitive and reactive. :P

i don't get that. people all over the net seem to take what you say too seriously or think you're coming across as an asshole anytime you don't use a smiley. on the flip side, you could get away with calling his mother a dike and his sister a whore... as long as you use a smiley.

I thought someone would beat me to the smart ass comment, but I got to be first for once!
I know what you mean, Scott. I'm guilty of getting a little pissed off online - then my wife laughs at me for getting mad in a "chat room" and I realize that it really is kinda silly....although with the world getting more and more internet-absorbed, I can see why fights and tensions that start online sometimes branch off into daily-life.

for me, i treat the internet and real life totally different. to me posting on here is like a game, or a release, a fantasy world if you will. some of the topics on here are somewhat serious, but most of them are not. alot of people do take this very seriously and let things bother them, or they get all pissy about everything.
i know i am a dick, douchebag, fucktard or whatever you want to call me on the internet alot of times. but i think anyone who knows me for me (in the real world) would think differently. i can sit and act civil with someone who might be against everything i beleive in. i feel people have the right to think whatever they want.
i feel that most people on here are out to prove somehow that they are better than the next guy, know more, make more money, have a bigger dick or whatever. this is where alot of the drama starts. i might post about a say a mustang i buy that goes 12's, then the next guy comes along and says i've got one that runs 5's so your comments don't matter! or whatever the case may be, alot of people cant even see themselves doing this.
i also love how people let thier ideas, or opinions drive an argument when they have no way of backing it up. they just ramble on and make personal attacks- i will give an example, (someone posts that a his house is worth alot, next guy says, nope it is not, then the other guy says your a fuckertarder! you douchebag! etc etc) its like watching kids fight over a crayon.
now i'm not saying i have never argued, i'm sure someone will bring up something, but some people are so stupid and so easily lead on.... thats all i got to say about that......
i try to come on here an stay away from the older people who feel they are the shit beacuse they are 60 years old and are better than everyone because they can finally afford better things than a 20year old.
i really like some of the discussions on tf, tr, but not as much as before. i guess every post i feel like i'm just waiting for someone to come in and rip it to shreads and start saying this and that because they are better and blah blah blah. even when trying to post things that are obvious sarcasm people read it, jump to a conclusion and take it as gospel, then proceed to give their i know this that blah blah blah speeches.
i like it here still, and do try to somewhat stay away from the drama, but that is like a fireman trying to stay away from fires........
