The Tampa Bay Lightning, which began play in the NHL as an expansion team in 1992, won the Stanley Cup (http://www.baynews9.com/images/news/2007/8/7/lglightning.jpg) in 2004.
TAMPA (Bay News 9) -- Tampa Bay Lightning owner Bill Davidson has sold the team to an organization led by former Florida Panthers coach Doug MacLean, according to the team.

A purchase agreement has been signed with Absolute Hockey Enterprises, but the team says the transfer is subject to approval by the National Hockey League (http://www.nhl.com/)'s board of governors.
The group includes Jeff Sherrin and Oren Koules.
The agreement also includes the leasing rights to the St. Pete Times Forum and adjacent properties. The team is holding an 11 a.m. press conference to discuss the sale.

"There had been some talk earlier last month that there was a group out there looking for an NHL team,'' said Damian Cristodero, the Lightning's beat writer for Bay News 9's partner paper, The St. Petersburg Times. "This group (Absolute Hockey Enterprises), apparently they're committed to keeping the team in Tampa but we will have to wait and see how things shake out.''

They're keeping the team here no matter what, at least that was what they said in the press conf. As for owners one of them is either a director, writer, or producer, of some kick ass movies like the saw trilogy, so theyr're saying it'll be pretty intersting to see some of the shit he's gonna pull this season to get ass's in seats.
