The Tampa Bay Lightning, which began play in the NHL as an expansion team in 1992, won the Stanley Cup (http://www.baynews9.com/images/news/2007/8/7/lglightning.jpg) in 2004.
TAMPA (Bay News 9) -- Tampa Bay Lightning owner Bill Davidson has sold the team to an organization led by former Florida Panthers coach Doug MacLean, according to the team.
A purchase agreement has been signed with Absolute Hockey Enterprises, but the team says the transfer is subject to approval by the National Hockey League (http://www.nhl.com/)'s board of governors.
The group includes Jeff Sherrin and Oren Koules.
The agreement also includes the leasing rights to the St. Pete Times Forum and adjacent properties. The team is holding an 11 a.m. press conference to discuss the sale.
