the first shot is the $ shot. but excuse the smudge and the glare from the lights.
using a d50 in P mode with the iso at 200.

DareDevil, any ideas how to clean up the glare and smudge? i may just end up cropping it all.

Really nice shot on the first one. The smudge you cant do anything about since it was a really long exposure and the trees were moving. For the glare, a lens hood helps, but you need to watch were the street lights are out, thats whats causing it.

yeah i knew i couldnt win against the glare and stuff all i really wanted to focus on was getting the cloud of lightning. thats all lol just wanted to catch what i did in the first pic...

again i'll probably just do some cropping

I actually don't mind the glare in the first shot. The smudge can't be helped but the flare actually adds a little more to the shot IMO. If anything I'd try to tone it down a bit in PS. What were your settings on those shots? ISO 200, what F-stop and how were you shooting? Just clicking and hoping for the best or trying to snap as the lightning was happening? Remote trigger or what? I do love me some lightning shots, keep 'em coming!

i did auto adjust levels in PS...

just in P mode iso 200. had it on my tripod and just clicked it and let it take the picture for 20-30 seconds whatever it wanted to do until it got the light it wanted, and hoped for a shot of lightning to show up like it did...dont remember the f stop tho but i'll toss one up on my flicker and get the exif data

if you find my previous post of lightning pics those were when i was set in P mode at much higher iso to try and catch it solely on reaction time...

idk though, that first shot, even though it is a smudge, it kinda looks like it blends in with the sky like a different type of cloud or a futuristic sky of some sort.
