I am ready to buy a set of aftermarket shocks for my 97 civic sedan, I lowered my car 1 1/2" in the rear, and 1 3/4" in the front, now im ready to buy new shocks to improve the ride, everyone says to go with KYB shocks, but which ones? or is there a cheaper/better brand to go with?
I found:
KYB GR2 Shocks, or KYB GR-2 Shocks, are they the same? or what?

Why didn't you get adjustable "coilovers"?
What kind of ride improvement: "oem" like new ride, or "track" stiff?
KYB is a decent brand, but there are better ones out there. They can be more expensive than KYB.
Tip: Look around other forums. See what other people have in their setups. OR speak to your friends who have aftermarket suspensions. Ask for their opinions

I wanted to bring up this old post to re-assure.. yes you should have bought a coilover kit.. over the last 3 months they have all gotten $100 more expesive due to exchange rates and transport costs.. what has not changed is my price to fix your old rebuildable kits :-0

Get a set of Tokico Blues.
The Tokico blues are a nice OEM replacement but if your going to lower your car Id say go with something Adjustable, The KONI yellows or KYB AGXs are both great choices and perform great for not going to coilovers.
You get what you pay for.

In order of quality/price
Bilstein Sport shocks1996 - 2000Set of 4 Bilstein sport shocks.$469.00
The Bilstein sport is not adjustable, but has the largest piston in the group, is specifically valved for lower stiffer springs.. it's a nice comprimise if your not racing and affordable.
Koni Sport shocks Y08 ALL1992 - 2000Set of 4. Koni has free shipping.$537.60
Like Reccomended here before, the koni is preferred for racing for it's adjustibility and it's ability to be rebuilt/revalved. the Twin Tube design is not as good as the monotube of the Bilstein, and will last slightly less long, but both have a lot of support.
Tokico Illumina shocks1992 - 2000Set of 4 adjustable shocks.$433.34
These are usually my next suggestion, they are adjustable, but don't have the valving of either of the above, but unlike the KYB carry a lifetime warranty. Twin tube design, but like the Koni some models adjust rebound only. (TOKICO (USA) Inc. warrants its performance suspension products to the original retail purchaser against defects in material and workmanship and wear-out when used on private passenger cars and light trucks under normal operating conditions for as long as such purchaser owns the vehicle on which it was originally installed)
KYB AGX shocks1996 - 2000Set of 4 adjustable shocks.$429.00
for $1 more a shock the more agressive valving and Lifetime warranty is worth the purchase. but in a pinch I use the KYB AGX..
For $260 there is also the option of Eibach Pro dampers, I can not comment on the quality, but unlike GR-2 or Tokico Blue these are specificaly vlaved and shortened for dropped springs.. and they are the same price as the other "replacement" shocks. but Eibach has a much better warranty.
