View Full Version : SRT-4 vs 99 Roush Mustang
I'm getting off a bridge and I see a set of headlights gaining on me slowly. I was doing 75mph then went up to 80mph, at which point the car that was slowly gaining on me was a 99 Mustang Roush and did a flyby on the far right lane and cut back into the middle lane. I made sure the road was clear and I said what the hell this is a race I've been looking for and went after him. I pull next to him back firing, blowing off seeing if he would take the bait. His buddy in the passenger seat kept looking at me smiling and turning talking to his buddy. Finally after driving a few miles next to eachother they took the bait. I was in 4th gear with the rpms a little over 3k. Passenger started the count down with the mustang a fender ahead, I slowly crept up before "3". At 3, we both hit it. Immediately instant spool put about 2 cars by the time I look back I'm 10 cars ahead and the guy flashed his high beams so I slowed down. They got next to me and the passenger gave me a thumbs up.
If your on here. Thanks for the run!

I don't know the plate clearly said 99 Roush on it plus all the Roush markings. I don't think the guy would go through all the trouble in making it look like one. It was really clean. Wife was in the car so she can also vouch. What everyone doubts a Neon on here... this place is beginning to turn worst everytime I log on.
At a little over 3k I hit full boost BTW. SRT-4's are torque monsters, being having more torque then hp.

1999-2004 Roush Mustangs
1999 saw Ford release the new design for the Mustang. With this release Roush also pushed out a new Roush Mustang based on the 1999 Mustang GT. 1999 saw three Roush Mustang Stages.
The Roush Sport Mustang was the lowest stage and was available on the V6 and GT Mustang. The Roush Sport consisted of the following additions:
Side Skirts
Front Fascia
Rear Valences
High-Performance Exhaust System
Hand Crafted Stainless Steel Tips
Side Exit Exhaust Tips
Tool Box
Embroidered Floor Mats
Window Banners (Front & Rear)
Roush Emblems
The Roush Sport also included the option of:
Sport Leather Seating System

18″ Argent Wheels & Tires
18″ Chrome Wheels & Tires
Laser Red Paint Upgrade
Rear Wing
Roush High Performance Brakes

Stage 2 was the most popular of the packages during the New Edge era of the Mustang, and was only available on GT models. The key point of the Stage 2 package was appearance and performance handling, but there were some minor engine performance items added to give the Stage 2 Roush Mustang a little more kick. The standard items of the New Edge Stage 2 package were:
Window Banners (Front & Rear)
Front Fascia
Rear Valences
Side Skirts

Atleast most of what is above for a 99 Roush Mustang this guy had exterior wise. So how is it BS on it being a real Roush. I don't see anything listed that would make it modding above the average. Seems like factory options.

My car isn't stock and I'll tell you I'm running 20psi. What I won't tell you is my mods because people don't need to know what my mods are. The car isn't stock and it has a stage kit on it with other mods. That's all anyone needs to know on here. Yeah I'm keeping it a secret to the public but a lot of people know what I have and what's coming up in the future.
The bs flag won't bother me. I took the time to research specs on the car I ran and by all means I don't see anything above average performance mods a dealerships offers like what we get for our SRT-4's except Dodge/Mopar focuses less on looks.

That has to be with a Roush 3+ kit on it and I believe it being that its a 07. But were talking 99 here which seems to be plain asthetics with a couple/few bolt-ons.

I rode in a 01' N/A Saleen a few months back ( guy at work has 9 fords and wants to sell it ). My partner at work drove it with me riding shot gun. It was like :-o People considered this a perfromance car !!! So tard pay'd $30K for this peice of trash !!! WHAT A TURD !!!
When it comes to newer stangs, its a terminator, mach1 or 01' cobra on spray or NOTHING.
No offense to anyone that bought a Roush or Saleen, but your a total tool !!! The cobras are twice the car, and almost ALWAYS cheaper. No matter how you slice it, the Roush and Saleens are ALWAYS GT based motors. When you buy a Stage3 or what ever with a S/c the motor is basiclly maxed out. When you buy a cobra, you can DOUBLE the power and the motor won't give a crap.
Anything older than a 01' cobra with the updated flash, and its not even as fast as a newer N/A civic Si
The SRT4 on the other hand, can run low 13s BONE STOCK on slicks ( which translates to them running very well from a roll ), so.... A modded one beating a SLow-en or Doush that's pre-00', its almost a silly race. I'm racing 430whp terminators !!! WITHOUT THE BOTTLE !!!
To be honest with you Bryan... I didn't know what a Roush Mustang was all about. Didn't take the time to learn about Mustangs. So I was kind of expecting a good race but it turned out to be a waste of time for me.
The car looked sick don't get me wrong maybe that's why the impression on me left me like this will be a good race. But it was more looks then go.

Ever hear of stock05skittle on here?Car had 300 miles and was already ingesting the giggle gas.The only mods were as follows: ported stock intake, short ram intake,3 inch dp,s-afc,map clamp, boost controller, mounts, and stock turbo. His car finally started having problems(if you consider a slipping stock clutch a problem) on the 150 wet shot.He trapped over 120 mph@ bmp on the 100 shot and beat many low 12 second cars on the street. On the 150 shot 600hp cars were giving him good runs.450lbs of torque is fun.:-o

I can imagine if youre out for an SCCA event on a track and outlapping the hell out of everyone, but street cars? Especially the gangsta gs down at Gandy, they'd die before telling you they could only afford and intake and fart can for their B20 swapped coupe, after wasting all their money buying a B20 for a coupe. me personally, its a theft thing. i would love to brag about a big turbo, fully built engine, but that can attract the wrong kind of attention. i dont mind telling people in my crew, but thats it.
and even if i had all that work done, i wouldnt brag bout it anyway, nor sit there with my hood popped up. thats just the way i am

I keep mine secretive because of the fact there's people that steal left and right. You telling people your setup left and right eventually something will happen towards that effect. Another reason I don't share it with too many people is the fact that it will draw to much attention to myself which I don't want. I rather show up somewhere and hang out without people coming up to me trying to race me left and right. So I feel that no one needs to know besides the one's I really feel should know. You run through a whole mods list then everyone knows what you have and you become "oh yeah that guy has this and that".

No it wasn't black it was that dark red/burgundy color. The exhaust came out the side. No exhaust in the rear.
BTW, if you look at the Specs I posted in Page 1. Even if its a v6 or v8 I would of beat it regardless. Stage 1 and Stage 2 roush for that year seems to focus mostly on looks. Stage 3 on the other hand for that year I didn't find any information on but seems like Stage 3 focus's more on perfomance which I understand... you own one.

No one ever meantioned the car was BRAND new, and COMPLETELY GUTTED. It was fast while the clutch lasted. Really, as long as you get it tuned once, and always run race gas, you'll never have an issue with NOS. Problem I ran into was that my set-up changes like the FL weather, and it consistantly needs re-tuned.
Then again.... If I was a lot more "secret squirrel" about my set-up, I could have been telling everyone " its bone stock with a 90shot ".
