View Full Version : The problem was.... Cracked piston (SRT4)

So.... 24psi, 100shot, Super stock turbo, and pump gas isn't good for your wallet.

Screwed the cylinder wall up a good bit too ( nothing un-fixable ).

Damn, looks like fun lol. Btw I love the sig. I'm glad I didn't get too far into modding my srt.

Well, when you push the limits, it happens. If it was any other 4 banger, it would have given up about 100whp ago and 5 bottles of 100shot ago...

sad to see but hopefully now you'll rebuild and run your setup better utilizing boost and not N2o for a ported TDO5 because IMO, N2o should be used for spool purposes if you have a big turbo on our cars but that's my thought. If you're rebuilding for drag purposes then use whatever you want but for a safe and long life street setup then your motor should be a touch on the rich side with a super safe tune...

Better utilizing boost = a bigger turbo. I'm not going to get away from the stock TD04, I love it. I race a lot, but I also love the way it drives.

I could have kept the nitrous, but... It was more of a tuning PITA, and I was tired of tuning the car for 4 different combos etc.

Besides.. The car went 11.94@111mph on the TD04 no nitrous, and 12.0@114mph no nitrous, so really, its already pretty quick. I took me a bit to settle into staying one speed, but I want the car to run 11.8 year round, every track day, without changing anything but the gas and front tires.

Also, at my rate of nitrous consumtion, coupled with a friend letting me use his 15LBS. bottle and my 10LBS. bottle, fill ups were $75 instead of the normal $30.

I don't regret using the nitrous at all. When the car was just S2, 22'' slicks, and open catted stock DP it ran 12.0@114mph on the bottle, which was WAY faster than I ever planned to go at the time. But 150+whp more, was asking a lot.

I plan to keep the car for "the long haul", and hope I can run 11.8 for years to come, while I watch everyone else trade into the newest "hotness", built cars, then sell them, then build another one, then sell it. I plan to be still rocking the neon.

With the wiseco pistons, and dropping the nitrous, I don't forsee anything other than the trannys days being numbered, but I'm sure it will still last for a good while. Its prob. got 500 passes on it now  ( between street racing, track racing, and A LOT of tuning passes ).

Stage2, PTP 55mm TB, PTP Intimidator exhaust manifold and SST, PTP O2 housing, PTP DP, PTP S3 clutch with stock flywheel, MSD plug wires, PTP wastegate, PTP FP mod V2 (75psi), Devil's Own Progressive Alcoy injection, Ebay $285 shipped IC, PTP check valve, Apexi AFC2.

All my motor/performance mods.

sorry about the typo on the TDO5(I guess I can't get that damn TDO5 HR off my mind-in another few months I should have 1), anyway that was probably the most sensible response I have seen on TR yet. Well I would venture to say if you use the same setup minus the N2O(lol)and with the new toys available such as what SCT and new design elect. has to offer, your car would be a monster, but as the old saying goes "IF YOU DON'T BREAK STUFF YOU'RE NOT GOING FAST ENOUGH"..

Interesting. So your running the PTP FP mod with stock Fuel Pump? I heard that shortens the life of the stock fuel pump. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also which exactly FMIC did you get on ebay for that price? There's a few on there around that price.

Its been a while since I bought it. Its just the cheapest 32x12x4 intercooler made directly made for the SRT4 ( not universal ).

The add was really ricer looking

PTP FP mod doesn't do anything to the pump. Even if it does shorten life, who gives a crap, the walbro is $100 and the stock 190lph walbro is like $50.

S2 with the FP mod is more fuel then S3R runs.

Hey man good luck on the build it looks like what hapend to mine when i added the 60-1 all the nitrous i ran b4 took its toll on the motor and the turbo finished it off...good luck again. here is the pics of mine.

I'm surprised thats all that happened to your car.To me it lasted long enough and proves the srt motor is one tough sob.Riven was in the high 11's with prob more money the in the turbo than you have in you car.If you wanna pickup a spare backup motor i have some contacts for a cheap shortblock or longblock(they sold me a running wrecked acr srt for under a grand). So what were your best dyno numbers on the spray?

Dodge took care of mine they just installed a brand new short block thanks to the friends i know there so i got lucky and didnt have to pay a thing...But the motors can hold alot i was surprised just have to always stay on top of the tuning or it will smash a piston.

well he's going for a 500 hp srt on race gas. He has a big turbo and the fuel to support it. a rod came threw the block last week. He just got the big turbo installed. Not exactly sure what turbo it is. However he told me its good for 550 hp at 33 psi. It has all the supporting mods to make that sort of power now. The only reason it blew up was cause he didn't wanna change the internals. Now he has all up graded internals. i am just asking are there any guys in tampa that make high hp srt's that have a good rep?
