I just took a quick look at MAE - registration is half-full already, and the event is still 4 weeks away. Folks, it's looking like this may be a popular one, so don't wait. We will fill empty spots/no-shows up to our 70 limit that morning, so you can take your chances, but it'd probably be better to sign up in advance...I know I will :D

Registered. How long do these events normally last ?

Figure you'll be there most of the day. You need to be there before 9:30 at the absolute latest -- 8-8:30 is better. Driver's meeting at 10...first car off by 10:30...6-8 runs translates to 4-5 hours of run time, plus lunch...we're normally packed up by 4pm. In addition to driving, you'll have to work a run group as well, so it's a full day.

I'm not correcting Jamie, but in my opinion that's way too generous and you should be there by 9 at the absolute latest with the amount of people we expect and our desire to keep everything on time.

If you have to come at 9:30, have your car fully prepped, cleaned out, and tires at your desired pressure the night beforehand so you can pull in and immediately get tech'd.

Just so's ya'll know - only 15 spots left. At SPC we can take on-site / walkup registrations to fill no-show spots up to the event limit, but it's a first come first served basis. We'll give the preregistered until 9:30, then open it up.

pullg

Preregistration for this event is officially FULL. The only walk-on entries we'll be able to take are those replacing no-shows -- we'll keep a wait list at registration and offer up any empty slots at 9:30.

How late do these usually go? What if you have to leave early? I have to work Saturday late afternoon since I wasn't registered, but now that there is an opening I may try to get there early and run but I want to know if its a problem leaving early and just how many runs I may be able to get in??? thanks

Muddy

We should be done no later than 330. Meet me around 730 am at the picnic tables to get on the waiting list, as I am doing registration. ;)

Expect the event to end no earlier than 3PM.
Expect the event to end most likely before 4PM.

Depending on your specific run group, and the way the event is run this time, leaving early may/may not be okay. You won't know until the day of the event.

We're always willing to try and work something on a case-by-case basis. We're probably running split groups -- each group taking about 4 runs, then doing it again after lunch -- so there shouldn't be a problem with completing at least the first set of runs and your work assignment before you have to leave. The rest depends on the size and number of run groups and how fast things progress.

Could I even work two sessions in a row earlier in the day just in case? I have to be gone by 3:00 to get to work in Tampa?? I DON'T want to flake out on working or anything so if it will be a problem then I won't try and run, but if people are OK with that then I will be there early Saturday to get a spot?

Joe we are leaving around 7am, let me know when you are leaving.

If its cool about me leaving at 3 for work then I will try and get there right at 7:30. So I guess I will be a little ahead of you probably? I just want to make sure I get a spot if I'm gonna get up that early . Just need to make sure its OK if I leave at 3 first

You will not incur the wrath of FAST if you leave at 3. We will assign you to an early work group - make sure you find Jamie as soon as you are sure you'll get a spot. We will help you figure out who he is if you don't already know. Worst thing that will happen is you won't get all your runs in. Or we may be finished by 3. Some aspects of the event are beyond prediction. For example:

I just want to make sure I get a spot if I'm gonna get up that early :haha: We cannot guarantee you will get a spot. The earlier you get to the event, the better your chances. We do not know how many openings there will be, nor how many people will walk-on.

Hope to see you there!

I think I'm improving a lot too, so I'm really happy about that.

Thanks a lot Steve. Oh, by the way, I believe that after I borrowed your painters tape, I handed it to my friend who forgot to give it back to me. I'm really sorry. I'd like to reimburse you for the cost of the tape, either by Paypal or at the next autocross.

Thanks for 'fessin'-up. Don't worry about it. Tell your buddy to get a roll and share it with everyone at the next event - there's always folks that need some.

Not a problem. I'll buy some extra that we can keep with all the FAST equipment so that way people can just use it at events. Can you just pick the stuff up at Lowe's or Home Depot?

I work every Saturday night and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it back in time from Brooksville:mad: Volunteer for an early work assignment - like helping with course set up, or tech, then your work is done. You can leave whenever you feel like you have to, and won't make anyone upset (except you if you don't get all your runs...) Sept. event IS a Sunday!

I didn't know that if I got there early to set up or do tech that it would count as my work for the day! That could work out on the days that I have to leave early for my job....

If you're talking about the CFR SCCA events, it may be even easier than that. They've been running 4 points runs in the morning, then optional fun runs in the afternoon. Most people stay for the extra runs, but it's not a requirement.

I don't know that CFR counts lhelping with setup as an early work assignment -- Jeremy can answer that. We do, but you need to step up promptly...we normally take two for setup, two for tech (at least one has to have prior experience), two for registration (at least one has to have prior experience), and two for teardown. Check the pre-event thread on the FAST BB or drop a note to the registrar when signing up on MAE.
