I want to try something out.
Have two Diamond D6 subwoofers for my low-lows, and the 6 1/2's in the front for the mids and 5/14's in the back for the high mids, tweeters in both front and back for highs.
Now I noticed that I'm missing a bit of low-mid range. Specifically 120HZ to 250.
I have a kickass 10" audiobahn that i bought from toby a while back that I've always wanted to use, tested it out ONCE with dalton and we were both blown back at how loud AND clean it sounded... more importantly it was pretty damn clean. Well i had two and dalton now has one of them, I'm hoping to buy it back from him and try out a new setup since we're ripping out my old stuff and finally redoing it for the last time before I buy my MS6 at the end of the year or whatever.
This time, I'm hoping to follow the Diamond box down to the exact numbers, which would make the box slightly longer rather than wider. This leaves me with a bit of space on the sides to play with... I was thinking of trying this out: Put the audiobahns in EXTREMELY small sealed enclosures and put them in an extended-face form of the box, so they'd be in this sort of alignment-- [olOOlo] --. In order to keep them from cancelling each other out, set all crossovers for lows to 20HZ to 80HZ (which is where my subs LOVE to be at.) and 90HZ to 250 HZ would be where the audiobahns could be, the speakers would then just be set to 120hz and up (whatever polk has their crossovers set to... =/).
Right now crossovers are set at 20hz-120 and the speakers starting at 60 or 80 and 120.
I wouldn't have to buy anything either since i have so much spare stuff lying around anyways...
I know it probably won't make it louder... thats NOT what i'm shooting for. I think as long as i have the crossovers set really well and if i spend a lot of time fine tuning it... It'll sound really good.
I know a lot of you are against the whole mixing of woofer sizes and such, but what do you think about this anyways?
