I want to try something out.

Have two Diamond D6 subwoofers for my low-lows, and the 6 1/2's in the front for the mids and 5/14's in the back for the high mids, tweeters in both front and back for highs.

Now I noticed that I'm missing a bit of low-mid range. Specifically 120HZ to 250.

I have a kickass 10" audiobahn that i bought from toby a while back that I've always wanted to use, tested it out ONCE with dalton and we were both blown back at how loud AND clean it sounded... more importantly it was pretty damn clean. Well i had two and dalton now has one of them, I'm hoping to buy it back from him and try out a new setup since we're ripping out my old stuff and finally redoing it for the last time before I buy my MS6 at the end of the year or whatever.

This time, I'm hoping to follow the Diamond box down to the exact numbers, which would make the box slightly longer rather than wider. This leaves me with a bit of space on the sides to play with... I was thinking of trying this out: Put the audiobahns in EXTREMELY small sealed enclosures and put them in an extended-face form of the box, so they'd be in this sort of alignment-- [olOOlo] --. In order to keep them from cancelling each other out, set all crossovers for lows to 20HZ to 80HZ (which is where my subs LOVE to be at.) and 90HZ to 250 HZ would be where the audiobahns could be, the speakers would then just be set to 120hz and up (whatever polk has their crossovers set to... =/).

Right now crossovers are set at 20hz-120 and the speakers starting at 60 or 80 and 120.

I wouldn't have to buy anything either since i have so much spare stuff lying around anyways...

I know it probably won't make it louder... thats NOT what i'm shooting for. I think as long as i have the crossovers set really well and if i spend a lot of time fine tuning it... It'll sound really good.

I know a lot of you are against the whole mixing of woofer sizes and such, but what do you think about this anyways?

put you car on toby's meter and see where you sq is with white noise, then you know where you have any peaks or valleys, i would try crossover points first, your different subs & sizes will affect the others in how the sound just by resonance

i see what youre trying to do by cleaning it up a bit, and it would look straight SICK, but you already know my objection. i have eclipse 6x9's in my rear deck, pulling 140 w rms each from my component amp, and they slam the mid/low range very nicely. no distortion either.

Thats what I'm afraid of.... But for some reason I think i can somehow overcome that.

I can't just "put my car on Toby's meter". Its not my meter to go freely use when i please. :P

They aren't 'subs' at that point, so you aren't mixing sub sizes. It will work. I'd put them on a seperate amp, so you can control the level, though.

Be careful with the small box, as that might make for a funny hump. Also make sure you hook them up reverse polarity, if they are magnet side out.

I have a separate amp for them.

I'll try and get the box as decent a size as possible and the woofers should all be facing the same way (all magnets facing front).

I'd just really love to see how this turns out, and it should be a complicated and fun project especially since I wouldn't have to drive either to palm harbor or zepherhills every day... I would do most this at home and I'll get to stay within tampa city limits.

Thanks for the replies guys =].

You have me confused with 1stgen7, I only use the finest Home Depot MDF board... Spend minutes looking at each sheet, noting imperfections, and then grabbing the few that are less dented.

It's a good idea, but I think you should put your midbass stuff inside the car rather than the trunk. I'd also look at crossover points first and see what you can do with your current setup, or maybe with a slight adjustment to internal speaker sizes/wattage/ x over points.

I know, I really wish my car wasn't so gosh damn "compact" for that reason. Only other thing i can think of is..... wait actually its a damn good idea! I can make super small "midbass" boxes that would go behind the two front seats on the floor, just big enough so they don't slide around. And then when someone is going to sit in the back, i can put them in the trunk; hopefully I'll make some sort of little seat or bracket for them so they sit in some sort of aesthetically pleasing location.

Just have to think of how i'd get the wires to move too..... Unless I make two sets of quick connect/disconnect wires, leave the floor ones sitting somewhat out of view and leave the rear ones nearby, just switch when i need to.... probably only take 5 minutes doing the move.

Not bad of an idea, kinda shits my [olOOlo] design out but it should sound AND feel somewhat better... hmmmmm. Too bad I can't throw one in the front center inside my main dash like i wanted.... too damn big.

And NO im not asking 1stgen7 to make me a scrap fence-wood center console.
