I test drove an 05 today, but the fucker felt really slow. It was only running 8-9psi. I swore they were up in the 15psi area?

The stock wastegate opens at around 4-5psi so I've heard. They reach 14.7psi and drop, go WOT in 3rd or 4th (1st and 2nd you shouldn't see that since its PCM controlled) and you'll see it hit 14.7 and come down since the wastegate opens early. The stock wastegate sucks. But if it was only running 8-9psi and not going higher then that then its got some serious boost leaks or something is wrong with it. I have an 05 and when I bought it... it was bone stock (Stage 0) and my stock wastegate would go to 14.7psi but it would fall from there.

I'm not sure if they are MAF or MAP controlled, but if it had that bad of a boost leak I think you would hear it and if MAF controlled, the car would run like ass.
The car ran fine, was just very slow. Probably a 16 second car. This thing hit 8psi and stayed there pretty steady. Didn't seem to fluctuate or appear that it wanted to go higher.

Negative. The SRT-4 stock comes with a factory boost leak already and it was on the hotside. I had it and I could not hear it, only way to hear it was by a boost leak test and mine was super loud which I didn't notice at idle or anything. I was told by a reputable guy that every SRT-4 he's worked on had this leak and it came that way from the factory. He is even DCX certified. I test drove an SRT-4 and it was boosting 17psi and pretty much holding it but it had an aftermarket wastegate. When I started the car I noticed vaccumm was at 14/15 and I said okay there must be a leak because my red SRT-4 is at 20 at idle sometimes 19 but mostly stays at 20. By the time I came back from test driving it, it was closer to 10 and wanted to stall. I pop the hood open and the intake pipe came off the intake box. That tells me it was probably already off or almost off before the the test drive (didn't bother checking under the hood first... my mistake). There probably is other leaks. During the test drive the car ran fine but felt like it wasn't pulling as stronge as it should because of the things I found but it felt good during the test drive. But this is my experience. Once boost leaks are fix these cars run strong. The problem is you need to ziptie lines and some add clamps to them so they don't pop off, they came like that out of the factory no zip-tied lines you can pull them right off. I've had intercooler pipes pop off on other cars I've owned so I know what a bad boost leak feels like. SRT-4's have a MAP sensor btw.
I say test for boost leaks, your not able to hear them with the car running. Also resetting the ECU might help as well. Is the car completely stock? Also where was the vaccumm at on idle? Did the needle sit on "0" on the boost gauge with the car off? The SRT-4 stock boost gauges tend to go bad, the needle sticks or breaks off, etc.

Boost gauge was fine, 20in/hg @ idle. Under full boost, with you losing 6-7psi of boost, you're _usually_ going to hear it. Stock boost leak or not.
If there was a boost leak on that car, and you were holding 17psi steady, then boost when the leak was fixed would have been above 17psi.
Generally if there's a boost leak the car will run rich. This car felt like the power just wasn't there. Not like there was a boost leak.
While I know very little about the SRT4, I cannot imagine that a "factory boost leak" would lose 6-7psi of pressure.
Edit: Im not going to buy that car. I was simply taking it for a test drive from a local dealer to show my gf the car, and see how it felt inside and out. Even SHE said she was unimpressed with the power of the car, which is a huge tip off. There was def something wrong with it. ;)
SRT-4's are pig rich from the factory. I had a boost leak, a big one at that. Sounded like a shower on full blast when the boost leak test was done. You cannot feel a boost leak unless literally a intercooler pipe comes off or a vaccum line pops off. My pipe was still on the intercooler and I was boosting 17 spiking to 19, boost leak fixed still doing the same just feels stronger. SRT-4's are PCM controlled boost and fluctuate depending on the temperature unless you go around the PCM so it doesn't control boost.
But I was just suggesting something that is common with these cars. A compression test would help, checking the spark plugs and so on as well.
The 1g turbo Laser I had, had about 5 boost leaks... I could not pin point any of them. So I replaced the gaskets and seals... bingo no boost leaks. If you have more then one in the general area you cannot hear them and when you do a boost leak test its hard to pin point them. It's hard to hear a boost leak with the car running, you can feel it if its major one (ic pipe off, etc.) but you definately can't hear it.
Hope the info. I gave you helped. Seems like you ran into one a kid had and ragged on it. Probably an easy fix though.

Yeah, your correct. You would hear 7PSI bleeding off. Somethign wrong with that POS. Go drive another one
Oh and all cars dont come with a hotside leak...what pathetic quality control that would be.

I never had a hotside leak, and for a stocker my baby always like to scare some people when I get on it...no slowness here--lol

It doesn't matter how many you drive, you and your girlfriend will still be unimpressed with the SRT-4. It's a fucking neon anyway. Go drive a real car.

  .
My information about the hotside came from the guy that did the boost leak test on my car which was David aka Big D. He said its a common boost leak. So I was just going by what he said.
