A Road Rally is not a Race. It is a test of driving skill and precision navigation. even a well seasoned driver will be challanged.
The this event will take place in the afternoon and evening, traversing the state forests of west central florida. Roads used will be both paved and unpaved (dirt and sand). Legal speeds will be used.
It is highly recommended
that vehicles have reasonable (4") bottom clearance, many rally roads have no street lighting so auxiliary lignhts may be desired. All competing vehicles must be street legal, properly registered and insured.
Each team must consist of 1 vehicle and 2 people, a driver and a navagator, additional passengers will be permitted at the discression of the rallymaster (must have seats and belts for all occopants)

I don't think Viveks or my car will meet that recommendation though I could adjust mine and I think he can as well.
Hmmmm. . .
Nice to see the SCCA support this event. I'll send a PM so we know what the tech consists of.

4" is not a lot, even most lowered cars are within this guideline.

im not worried about clearance , more about paint job. So I do have a few oldercars that it wont matter if the paint gets chipped. Last rally i did on dirt roads the Citroen DS lost a hubcap and we had to turn around and find it.. plus if we went at a quick pace the stones were banging the crapout of the car.
So I guess I can rent a Tarus.. no one will care about a Tarus. Or even better yet a Cavalier, we know they are faster than a Nissan

Man BAM, you really know how to hurt a guy... and you need a correction... A GIRL in a cavilier is faster then a Nissan, when said Nissan is driven by a man with a girls name (Ducking)

Cool I am glad there is that much interest. I am looking forward to this event. You should see my paperwork wed or so..
So you never answered , RE the amount of paved surface vs dirt/gravel. If its not giving to much away... If there is going to be a fair amount of dirt/ gravel Ill drive a car I dont care about the paint..

forest stages means roads for a 4 wheeler? or just farm roads?

Don't worry, Jeff's not taking you on any roads that he hasn't driven more than a few times in his Sentra. I expect he'll be kind enough to point out in the route instructions anywhere you might need to slow down for safety. He's good that way.

these are from a preivious Rally we ran but give you an idea of "forest" roads
To recieve SCCA sanction and insurance I HAVE to have A Rally steward drive the entire route at rally speed to determine it's saftey if he deems anything too difficult I must change it. and he drives a honda accord. (not exactly a Jeep)
and I have allready approached some suncoast flatlanders (4x4 club) to run sweep, so if someone does go off into some deep sand they can get pulled out. (the sand is the only REAL threat if you miss a turn or just drive off you Might get high centered, but if you drive within your limits you'll be fine)
It's also common courtsey if you pass a car that has driven into somthing they shouldn't have without someone helping them that you stop and assist If you buy a $10 bright yellow tow strap at wallmart, and signal the oncomming rally car with it he will stop, and get you going again, if you get "Goodnstuck" that's what the 4x4 club is for.

That's only comforting if you don't know Jeff.... ;)
Still trying to decide which car to enter...Miata, resurrect the Prelude, try to talk my wife into entering her Cooper S, or just run the minivan on the grounds that it's hard to hurt. The 'Burb would be perfect, but even if I get it put back in running condition, it still pops out of 4th at speed...bad idea to hustle a 4000-lb vehicle with vague steering along with one hand....

we just finished the offical Pre-run yes Clearer heads prevailed and we decided to lop off 5 miles of roads and our decision to move the scoring to "monte carlo" style will make competing easier for the green novices. all in all a great day... I'm stoked.

Hey, Jeff, sorry I never called you back this weekend. Seemed like you had things well under control (and you did), so I left you to it. Sounds like things are REALLY coming together!

It looks like ^^^^^ and I are going to do this together. "Team Charles"
Can you give me an idea as to what the instructions will be like? What all I should bring? And what to expect as a navigator.
I'm great with maps and directions, but I have no idea what to expect for this event.

Is this some thing worth driving too to watch or strickly competion?
Cause my Sti will make it but I wonder if there any room to park and watch, and if I can does it cost anything. I would love to watch this event.

Unlike a Stage rally Only Myself and the checkpoint workers will know the course before hand. so there is no real place to watch. however if you want to work a checkpoint we can put you with an experenced crew. We allways have fun with the checkpoint workers because we need to get to the checkpoints well beofre the first car!
