What are the best steps to follow precisely to a good car wash and make the car shine for a long time. Also include materials, how much it cost and where can I get it? Thank you

soap/water/SOFT brush, that mr. clean car wash thing works good too! then i suggest Zaino Bros Polishing kit. (google it)
We detail hundreds of cars a month. DIYer should go to Walmart, buy a new plastic 3 gallon bucket, the best wool wash mit they have, the Blue Corral wash/wax soap (blue in color, one gallon), and "The Absorber" chamois (sold in a plastic tube, always wring it out good but don't dry it and stick it back in the tube). Always keep a seperate sponge/rag strictly for the wheels/wells/lowest panels and only use the wash stuff for the car (don't use the bucket for mopping or anything). ALWAYS power rinse the car off good before washing (if you have access to even a cheapee pressure washer to touchlessly remove as much of the dust as possible to avoid scratching). Wash with plenty of the soap in the shade, then rinse back off thoroughly. Chamois dry completely (again, use seperate towels for the wheels-not the body chamois). Good luck!!!

if u were going to clay a car u would follow steps above but after rinse was done re apply a nice lather of soap and use a clean clay bar even a bootle of soap and water is handy for dry areas key is to keep the car wet and slippery and keep the clay bar clean it works beeter if the bar is a lil warm so put in out in the sun while washing the first time ... i usually go from driver fender around all side's then i pay extra attetion to trunk roof and hood were thats were most of the rail dust and grime from the road lays....any more ????? just pm me
