Alright, well I am no professional by anymeans but DO YOUR RESEARCH INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO SOMEONE ON TR  Personaly, I have the Canon 30D with the ultrasonic lens w/ image stabilizer and am 100% happy with it (if youre dissatified with this camera, you have problems  )

I have a few questions for you....

1. What style of camera are you looking for?
-A DSLR or standard style of camera?

2. You're going to hear this more than just from me; MEGA PIXELS are waaaay over rated! A 5.0 or higher will be  for what youre looking for. As long as youre not Blowing a picture up to poster size, youre going to be satisfied with the picture quality.

3. Are you going to be using photoshop at all to edit your photo's?

30d is a badass camera. the sony alpha100 is a good camera for starters I think. Thats what we have. We really love it. The Canon 5D is also a great camera and I think I will own one 1 day. Nikons are nice but I was really impressed with the sony, especially for the price. Plus you can get 20 year old lenses off ebay for hella cheap and they work with it np.

If your wanting to take any kind of meaningful pictures like the types you mentioned, your going to want to stay away from a standard p-a-s.

A good camera to jump into the game with is a Nikon brand DSLR. I'm not saying Nikon > Canon, but with a Nikon, things are a lot more user friendly for first time/novice photographers.

Somone was selling a good starter kit not even a week ago. It was a rebel xti with extra battery and lenses for 550 which is real good.

Honestly if hes never used either. Though i've seen a few fresh ppl get lost with Nikons. I use a Canon and Nikons are confusing in the menu system to me just cause im not used to it.

Every major manufacturer has a good starter kit setup, Pentax, Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Samsung, Sony, and Fuji. They all have good starter setups for $500-$600 range. The real major plus to Canon and Nikon is the abundance of third party support and pricing for them.

Just gotta be careful. Most of the time, people with these cameras aren't the kind of people that would try to rip you off.

First off, I hardly ever take a picture without editing it. (I'm too addicted to Photoshop, lol)

Secondly, I take pictures in RAW format, so I always have to process them to my liking.

But here's about what it looked like before anything:

Ehh... Sorry to disagree but I find the Canon a lot easier to use!!! With Nikon, you have to scroll through 3 things to get to the option your looking for. With Canon, its all a straight shot through the menu!

My thoughts:

1. Canon is better than Nikon with user friendliness :mullet: .
2. Nikon's camera body is more expensive than Canon camera bodies.
3. Nikon's lenses are cheaper than Canon lenses.
4. They both will take some AWESOME PICTURES!!!! Remember, its not the camera, its the photographer!!! I tip from an amature; take your pictures between dawn and dusk!

On another note, I bought my G/F the Canon SD800 (standard style of camera) and it takes some HELLA NICE PICTURES!!! Here's a pic I took with it (NO PHOTOSHOP!) Picture was taken at dusk to give it a darker appeal!

well i own a nikon d40 and i love it.. it takes some nice ass pics and my boy merv has a canon rebel xti it also takes nice ass pics so u cant debate between these two cuz there both great cameras pictures look clear and crisp with both cameras and the reason for me buyin the nikon was #1 to test between the two (both are great)
and #2 cuz my poket was throwing only 700 or less and i payed 609 out the door with a year to year warrenty plan lol but both cameras are great.
And pixel wise the xti is 10.1 mp and mine is 6.1 mp and unless ur makeing posters and billboards u shouldn't worry bout it but good luck with ur choice........jusy keep in mind there both great cameras....

Nothing what anybody said here is right or wrong; just get a price range set and see what you can get. Nobody said you can't change your mind! For example, I think I'm gonna see if somebody (highly unlikely, lol) wants too trade my Nikon equipment for there Canon stuff.

I have an Canon Rebel XTI and i love it. Its all in how much money you can spend. If you can spend around 500 then go canon. If you can spend 800-1k. Than go Nikon. Canon ownes @500 bucks. Nikon ownes @8-1k.

canon rebel xt is a great camera for the price. thats what i shoot with and i highly recommend it. you will def. want to shoot in RAW format when you get one though.

It narrows down to how you use the camera. I can make a point and shoot look like a SLR with the correct shooting and editing.

My girlfriend has a Nikon D70S that takes decent shots from the getgo. Think she paid like 800 bucks for a kit or something. I don't remember. Pictures look good.
