Anyone else heading up to Jennings on Monday? There are a few people that have already posted on TSB.
We'll probably be heading up there on Sunday. If anyone else is heading up that day, we can probalby all get together for Sunday night dinner.

That is almost always the way it is... the bike is ready before we are!
That is a good idea and should be good karma... Repair those crashed plastics and use them for the track!
Lonna, hope to see you out there for the next ladies' day! They're talking about sometime in the fall for it. Plenty of time to get a bike! ;)

First of all...im tired as shit!!!! just got everything put away and some grub in me....whew...
All i can say is...i certainly had the most fun on a motorcycle ive ever had today. And i couldnt have had a better bunch of peeps to hang out with...Thanks again fer letting me use ur trailer Donna :) and it was very nice to meet ya!!...and a final thanks (hes probably sick of hearing it by now) to Randy & Lonna for haulin my ride up there and back :)...
as for the track day...everyone was riding pretty damn good...Nick was clickin off laps in the 1:30's in intermediate traffic...Donna was perfecting her lines and rippin it up on the SV1K...and Steve was tearin' it up and riding really well...
as fer me...i had the fuggin heebie-jeebies all day, i felt comfortable on the track and had the race line down by my 2nd session...after that, i just cruised around and used the day to acclamate myself to the track...i made a few aggressive and non-aggressive passes, but mostly held myself to 60% of corner speed it feel i could carry safely on non-race tires...as for times...i was clocked once setting a blazing pace in the low 1:50's :) but that was in lots of traffic, with no inside passing allowed...im sure i could get in the 1:30's without much problem on PP's or C3's....but damn we saw some crashin!!!!! highsides, lowsides, totaled R1's, oh my!....
all in all the fantastic fucking time....when are we doin it again????

Lonna, you and Randy rock! Thanks so much for picking up my slack with Chad's bike. I looked at my trailer's specs and said 1500 lb capacity; no problem. Dummyme forgot about the 4' width potentially being an issue for two bikes. Worst case scenario, we would've taken one of the bikes in the bed of my Ranger. Your "times" are not the reason they may allow you to move into other classes. It also has to do with how many riders there are. I think expert only had a handful of people and intermediate and novice had a lot more.Depending on the day and the riders has the most to do with the "class" adjustments. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am mistaken?
Slo Poke
05-30-2007, 07:19 PM
your right Steve....i was just sayin, that i saw Calvin run a lap in the Expert session that was somewhere in the mid 1:20's...this was just my judgement, but i was pretty good at it by days end...the guy that was "guest riding" DocBrocks R6 had run consistent 1:22's after warming up the tires....Calvin paced him for 2 laps toward the end, but was a bit slower on his fastest lap, therefore i'm guessin he was in the 1:25-1:26:30 range...i was very close at guessing both his (the guest rider) and Brock's "hot lap" times (i was within 2 seconds on both)....
as Knine states in his post, the difference is that the Experts can turn those times consistently. And the passing is MUCH more agressive in expert, you are expected to hold ur line at all times at race pace....
so, i may be a little off, but not by that much....
if u say so....
Randy had the stop watch on him while he was riding in expert and he was anywhere from 138's to 139's. He said he was spooked how fast the fast guys are.. Can't wait till next time.
wolfey971
05-30-2007, 09:08 PM
no offense to anyone, but I highly doubt K9 was in the mid 20's its a task alone to break from the 30's. yeah K9 is quick out there and will only get quicker, but if I had to make a guess @ his time and I wasnt even there I would say he might have hit mid 34's to 35's.
and yes all classes are subject to change depending on the crowd. the head control rider and rae control have to adjust the groups as they see fit, someday you might be asked to bump up into a different group but that dont always mean you will be there the next time. somedays expert times are from 1:22 and lower, which means that Int times will be from 1:22 to about 1:27 or 28 and novice from 1:28 and on, other days you might get away with have 1:35's in Int.
lap times are not the only thing that is concidered, the biggest factors before moving up is consistancy, smooth and how predictable you are, plus you need to learn how to pass and be passed without freaking out. I would rather ride with someone that runs 1:45's in INt if they are predictable and consistant rather with someone that runs 28's but are all over the place
we preech about taking baby steps and you have to go slow to go fast, the first thing you need to learn is the race line, if you dont know that you are not going to make it around the track safely. once you learn that, you can start to work on other things like body position, shifting, braking and so on. dont go to the track your first time out and try to work on everything cause you wont acomplish anything. take it slow stay in 1 gear, learn the race line and from there work on you shifting points, then after you are running a lil faster you might have to use your brakes but only at a few spots *entering 13, 1, 5. (on most bikes)you can make it around the track in 1 gear so why cluster your head with everything at once the track will be the same the next time you go there.
anyway, I didnt get to go this past weekend, hope to see you guys out there again soon!

The Story about Monday Goes Like This...
I Started out in 'Intermediate' Since I have Rode intermediate before.
I Ran the 1st 2 sessions up front and had no problems passing and staying up there! They both ended with "Red Flags"
I was Running up front with some riders, that i found out later, were 'experts' running in the intermediate group practicing on there passing! Then when they bumped some riders from the novice up to intermediate...Things stated to become a little unsafe out there ! Flying upon the Slower intermediates that were unpredictable. That's When the Expert riders went to the Expert group.
Since, i was running with them ..a few said, i should ask ,if I could move up.
I went to a Staff member and ask, If I could move-up to 'Expert" and was told NO!
Later, On I was told YES, I could! I thank them for putting trust in me ,that they let me ride in 'Expert'.... I wanted to see what 'Real' speed was like and I found out! lol
Now, For The Lap Time.
Btw> I Did Have A Rider In Expert pull me Along with a Lap Timer,,And Since i was Not right on his tail he gave me a estimated time!

Kyle, this is not directed at you or anyone in particular.
IMO, the track is not a place for new riders.
I'm glad that I did not go any sooner than I did, because I would not have been ready.

IMO, the track is not a place for new riders.
I agree with that to an extent! you need to have a comfort level with your bike and all the required gear before going to the track, but on the other hand if you are veteran to the streets you need to be adaptable to the changes that will be required to ride the track, meaning that sooner or later you will have to change some bad habits. if you are a newer rider riding the track will have you learning some of the better habits quicker that you can apply to everyday riding and will make you less venerable to panic moments when the situation arises.
Jennings is open to anyone and everyone, we have had people that have only been on a bike from a few days - 30yrs+ coming out for the first time. its the control riders responsiblity to take them and show them the ropes, help them understand the language (riding the race line, connecting the dots ect.), learn to make their way around the track safely and become a better track rider.
I have worked with some people only a few sessions, and others all day, we are out there for a reason, its free instruction, so take it for all its worth

You, Randy, Kelly and a couple of the others have always been ready and willing to give the advice and pointers. Those of us that are lucky to live so close, sometimes get even more time to discuss and do on the bike help while not at the track. Thanks Jeffro! muahhhhh!

mike...start in novice...they will run a few laps and show ya the track, then show you where and how to properly pit, which is important...do a session or 2 in novice (if not all day) and work on the line and passing....you really need a few laps to just learn the track....they will move you up if you turn consistent quick laps on the race line in the Novice class....dont be fooled, there were some pretty quick guys running in the novice class and i saw some fast intermediate guys riding either different bikes (motard, SV's) or their bikes in the Novice class throughout the day...
they have lots of control riders there and all are very fast and smooth...they can show you very quickly if you pay attention...i had the race line down pat (and some "other" lines ,thanks Randy) by the end of the second session....

Slo is right about your question Mike, sign up for novice.
the first novice session is lead/follow only, the best thing to do is be one of the first guys suited up and ready when they start making the calls that way you get up close to a control rider as we line you up before hitting the track, the 1st four laps are lead/follow with no passing the 1st and 4th laps we show you how to pit in correctly after the 4th lap we release you and you might get a lap or 2 in before the checkered and you are done with the first session.
the 2nd session and the rest of the day you are free riding unless a control rider sees something and gets in front of you and taps his tail which means what ever he does you do even if its pitting in, it doesn always mean you did something wrong just that he might be able to show you a different line in a section of the track that might help you get thru there a lil better - there are different lines that you can take and you might be able to take a tighter line on a 600 compared to being on a 1K.
I might be there the next time, I go allot just not when I have my daughter
but I am here anytime you help answer your questions.

oh to answer the 2nd part of your question...
start out in novice connecting the dots will help you learn the race line, as you get quicker I am sure someone will put a time on you either it be race control or a control rider behind/in front of you, if you see yourself getting held up alot do a hot pit (which will be shown also) and find a gap to free yourself up from the traffic, if you see yourself still being held up and no ne as said anything to you yet, find the head control rider (his name is Randy and he is the guy that does the novice meeting in the am) and talk to him, he will send a control rider out with you to follow and see how you are doing and depending on somethings like times and size of the int group you might get to move up,
if you dont get moved, dont be upset it might just be cause Int group is normally the lagest group and we dont want to take you from the frying pan and throw you into the fire so to speak
you can still work on things and if they dont move ya try to be the frist one up to race control the next session, you will be the first out on the track and will have no traffic to slow you down
with working on things, you can work on shifting points finding new reference points, being smother which will only make you quicker, and work on passing (on the outside only) and finding the best places to pass. there are some really good places to pass and those that are not so great
remember go faster in the fast parts and slow in the slow parts

Yup...
Mike...
Just realize to give plenty of room and make sure you can complete the pass... the lead rider doesn;t know you are out there passing because his\her eyes are looking away from your position... It is your resp to safely pass.
take your time, don't look to be agressive to be moved up. I think you can ask a control rider to follow you to maybe make the recommendation for you to move up...
Oh yeah... try to be the 1st in line... I failed miserably at that talking shit in the pits with they guys...
