I know alot about cars, and I know alot about computers, but i know little about audio.
Help?
I am getting a new car this weekend, a 2007 Camry. I am not getting the JBL audio system, but I do know that I will want to replace the factory speakers. The factory system is a 6 speaker system.
I was thinking Boston Acoustics Pro's. What kind of amps would be recomended? Where would be a good place to get it installed?

I drive 35-40,000 miles a year, on a factory stereo. What ever sounds good to me? How do I know what sounds good? I've put up with factory radios for years. Somebody told me Boston Acoustics...but hell, I don't know.
Maybe I should goto Circuit City or Best buy and ask them for advice...

OK OK, I'll stop being vague, pleaaaaaaaaase don't go there.
Go check out our famous forum member TJElite's shop in oldsmar.
Don't you live near that area anyways?
He can most likely help you out.

I figured that would get a reaction out of you... Seriously, I've been to both of them, but I don't value there canned responses and lack of enthusiasm.

among other things.
Are you looking for
a step up just above stock speakers?
quality higher end stuff?
mix of quality and loud?
ghetto loud?

Something Decent...
I drive alot, and I don't feel like going deaf. I enjoy a little bass though. I already have an 8" bazooka tube with Rockford amp (all new) in the garage **Free**.
So, I'm not looking for winning any competitions, but I want to be able to enjoy the music, maybe turn it up when a good song comes on.
I guess you could say 2 steps above stock, but not audiophile or high end $$$...

For Component speakers, I'm thinking:
MB Quart
Boston Acoustics
JL
ADS
For amps, maybe:
JL
Rockford Fosgate
MB
eh.
Go to toby's shop, he has a bit of stuff thats probably just what you're looking for, and you won't find better prices elsewhere with warranties and the ability to talk to the man himself for recommendations
I could give you maybe a few suggestions but EVERYONE's tastes are different. What may sound good to me, sounds like shit to someone else, sounds like SEX to someone else, and may sound like nothing special to you?
If we still had the audio meets i'd let you listen to my crapmobile, sounds damn good for rather inexpensive gear. And you could've asked a few other people to listen to their setups, get an idea somewhat. Of course though cabin acoustics come into play and even though two cars might have a 100% identical setup, it might sound completely different.
Its a tough game to play. i know i've spent a TON of money just getting my system to where it is now, where i'm actually happy with it.
*edited for stupid typo, sorry Toby*
personally i dont really like Rockford products, i dont favor boston acoustics much, and i've never heard of ADS? sounds like a company i used to work for lol

JL is always a good way to go, So is kicker, and ive heard pioneer is to. Id go to an actual shop tho instead of best buy. They know more and usually have a car or 2 around u can listen to and get a general Idea. They sometimes also get better prices. Also one thing I like to do is match brand names such as same brand amp and speakers. Some people dont think it makes a diffrence but I do. Also if you post up a general location of where you are and how far ur willing to go im sure people would post repuitable shops in ur area.

Pro 60s are very very nice speakers, they like power though. Pick up a Sundown 100.4 from Toby and run itbridged for them.

Really, you dont need to spend that much, Im guessing your just looking at doing new speakers, new cd player and using your bass tube. I personally have Kicker componets and i LOVE them. they seem to be a decent mix of clean and loud at a fair price.. I also really really really like eclipse products, I have a a cd3000 head unit in my car, works and sounds great, my mom has the navigation unit with the 30gig hard drive (cant remember model) and that thing rocks like you wouldnt believe and my dad has eclipse subs which by far sound better then anything I have heard. I have heard there componets as well and was happy with the sound I got from them. Alpines type R series of speakers didnt sound to bad either in a truck I put them in.

Honestly, you need to just go to a couple custom audio shops and demo the speakers yourself. If you've been happy with factory systems most of your life...there may be no need for you to spend a gazillion dollars on a top end system that the audio-philes on here will recommend. Not only that, but everyone likes and dislikes different things...it'd be like asking a bunch of people what's the best food.
Boston Acoustics is a great brand, and the pro's are probably one of the best speakers out there. But do you really need the best? Plus, you may think a pair of low end Alpine's sound as good if you're not big into car audio. I've seen it.

I think I know what Dan means, but my stuff all comes with warranties :D
I have to agree with John...'sounds good' is very relative. You can make big improvements, especially to a factory system, without going nuts.

Shit, yeah i meant you won't find stuff like that anywhere else pricewise with a warranty to boot. I meant that online retailers 99% of the time don't have warranties, only the cruddy manufacturer warranty, and if they do have a warranty, you have to foot the shipping bill.
sorry for the typo:oops:

fanboy? i think not.. but credit should be given where its due.. can you honestly tell me kicker amps and speakers are garbage? not subs, I dont like those either, there geard for a whole different type of music.. I have owned and worked with many typs of amps, speakers and subs. Honestly these kicker sx amps are by far the nicest i have worked with.. not only there power, look, clarity but also there ease of use.

thats actually what im running right now, they are pretty bad ass. I liked the regular ks series as well, I was impressed very much actually
I need to hear properly installed speakers for once to formulate an unbiased opinion.
For now I'm placing them, due to their subwoofers, into the "Meh" category.
as for their amps, they're damn expensive.... but i've seen them work fairly well.

The SX are nice amps, but the price puts them out of their league. The KX amps are horrible all around.
The ks speakers are horribly tinny, the SS are nice, but again, for the same price there are speakers way above them in performance, power handling, and output.
If they put their prices back where they should be, they would probably be some of the higher in their class. But since they put themselves in with much better performers by price, they constantly remain at the bottom of my list.

I dont really know regular prices, I paid 70% off msrp... circuit city discounts FTW!!. I think i paid like 300 for each amp, 2 somthing for the ss componets, 250 each for the eclipse titanuim 12's and like 50 for the 0 guage wire from kicker
BTW, i dont care what any of you say, that kicker power kit is the SHIT.
Once you decide and get your best prices, call me or email with products and part numbers. We will get them below anyones lowest price and can install them at the shop also if you need it... Matt/MCOR Automotive LLC (813)362-5454...

hey man, are you talking about for speakers or for subs and both? boston acoustics subs are very good quality. ive had them in my 300zx, and for 2 10" boston acoustic G2s, they slam and im running a 300/3 jl audio amp. for an amp, i would go with jl audio, ive heard only good things about them, and on all there products, they have a lifetime warranty. boston acoustic speakers are also good. if i were you, id stick with jl audio and boston accoustic. if your interested, im selling my 2 10"s and my 300/2 jl audio amp. if your interested or want pics or anything let me know and send me a pm. ill sell them cheap cuz i need cash, so 250obo send me a pm and we can work something out.

Boston Acoustics FTMFW!!!
I just finished my Stereo System this weekend and It sounds Amazing!!!
Like I'm in the middle of a concert.
The clarity is Awesome and at uber High Volume.......no distortion what so ever!!!!
-I'm running 2 Boston Acoustic Rally component sets( 1 6" w/ neo2 tweeters & 1 4.5" w/ neo2 tweeters
-1 set of Boston Acoustic SX-95 2 way 6x9's
-2 Alpine Amps along with a Clarion EQ
-1 12" Cerwin Vega in a chambered box.
Boston Acoustics are hard to find if you don't want to shop through Crutchfield.
I got my 6x9"s for almost $62 cheaper then MSRP through this place and they were at my door 4 days later.
Boston Acoustics SX95 6" x 9" 2-Way Speakers (http://techronics.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=6290&aff=72182)
Just food for thought if you want something good for less money.
