sold a beater with a decent system in it?

What kind of return did you get on it?

pretty much calc it out like this:

how much did you think the car by itself was worth and how much did you spend on getting the system nice in there (i'm not talking about ghetto little 1 sub in a small sealed box sliding around the back with an amp mounted upside down in the trunk.... on stock stereo and speakers)
and how much did you get on the sale?

I'm just curious, i'm not doing it to my car, i'm transferring most of it over to the new one... I'm just keeping options open!

Generally, what I've learned is that people use the condition of the car as what they base the purchase on. Very few people can justify in their mind buying a car that has a higher price because of a system (or any other ''option or luxury," for that matter.) There are a few exeptions, such as VERY high quality systems in a car that is worth repairing, or has high potential, or if it's a car that is generally desirable regardless of condition. So in a few select circumstances, it will be profitable.

About 6 months ago, I sold a project '93 Integra that was all original, but really rough. It needed paint, interior, wheels and tires. The engine was perfectly straight. The body was rough enough to the point i considered it worthless, but it had a nice system with flip out Head unit and 2 12'' professionally wired JL audio subs in a ported plexi - front lit box, with a custom amp rack and fans. It was a very clean install; it sounded amazing, but overall the car looked terrible. Got the car for $200 from a small tow company in St. Pete - The owner had it for years, and the original owner of the car couldn't be contacted, so a new title was issued. I sold the whole car for $1800 to the second person to come see it.

Luck? Good advertising/selling? Good combination of appealing things in the car? A little bit of each. So if it's done right it can work out.

I just realized how much I typed lol

Hope this helps man!

System's are worth nothing in a car. The majority of people out there could give a shit less about systems, others will have no idea the value of the equipment, and many would probably rather it not even be in there at all. You're much better off stripping everything out and re-installing it in your new car or simply selling it seperatley. Leaving it in there is basically throwing it away.

When I sold my last car, I sold it with the system. The woman who bought it ended up ripping most everything out to get trunk space back again and in the process ended up fucking up the rest of it...then tried to get me to help her fix it. Yeah right, not my problem. I kick myself in the ass for that one...wish I would have known she didn't want any of it, I could have kept it all.

probably 98 percent of the people dont care about the audio in a car beyond "can I listen to cds?" Leaving everything in the car is a waste of equipment. I'd rather deal with lowballers on craigslist then basically giving it away.

Mobile video and security is a different story though.

a DVD player and screen definitley adds to the appeal
And a decent alarm system will be a very strong negotiating point that can get a lowballer to come close to your asking price.

That still depends on the person/car. If my mom bought a car with a dvd player and a screen, she would be in a rush to get it removed. If it was a minvan with rear entertainment?

Alarm, thats always good.

Alarm is great, but I wouldn't pay more for a car just because it had one. If you really want an alarm, you can get one with all the bells and whistles installed for less than $300 most places.
