you ARE able to slide the car on shocks and springs just fine BUT your car will perform better with coilovers. Just heat/cut your springs and save your cash until you can afford some coilovers. Depending on your car, they start at about 700 and up. Unless you have an ae86, then the teins start at 2k.

springs = fail
shocks = aids
together they form fail & aids.
so therefore springs/shock combo's must indeed be chock full of fail & aids.

if you are going to spend 400 on a shock+spring combo just save a couple hundred more and get coilovers, youll regret them after you buy them cause you are not going to reduce body roll and sway by that much compared to stock suspension. there is a kid on the nissan for sale getting rid of some cusco comp s' for 500 which is a great start.

I'm using Nissan shocks. whenever the body or the wheels encounter any motion, my Nissan shocks (http://www.shopnisparts.com/nissan-shock/) bear the force. and those same Nissan shocks are what i count on to help me stop straight, corner well, and remain comfortable.
