For all the people who complain about slow finishes .... I'm one of them.

That's just a nasty situation all the way around. It sounds like the guy had plenty of time to snap out of it and get on the brakes- he must've really gone out of his head. I've actually had a moment like that which could've gone really badly (sad to say as I've only done one event  ), came out of a slalom exercise at the n00b school with the back end loose and pointed at- of all cars- the badass Skyline GT-R. Fortunately I kept my head and put both feet in to a harmless spin to get the car stopped. Maybe if I'd been driving a borrowed 100k dollar Porsche the panic might have shut my brain down just the same as that guy's, but I have a rule against driving a borrowed car to 10/10's to save me from that.

he went to grab the brakes but got the clutch instead

Learn heel-n-toe and that would have never happened.

I wasn't aware that one could heel-toe shift with an automatic transmission. The crasher drives an auto Vette normally.

Don't let aggressive people with 3-second-long brain pulses take fun runs at 10/10ths in your Porsche GT3 and that would have never happened.

I know we are always on the look out for how close cars are parked to the finish lines at autox events. There are a lot of events where drivers are carrying a lot of speed and locking up the brakes to slow down when they go past the timing light.

Well, that's why our finishes are 200 ft from the timing tent. :D

I talked to a couple of people that have seen that site in person and they said it's just not big enough - that the grid is always way too close to the finish.

Oh! This reminds me.
Attention all GT-3 owners out there ( Um ... make that un-smashed GT-3s).
This Sunday is the Porsche Club Rookie Weekend at Z-Hills.
Should be a good event for First timers.

I thought at z-hills they only try to go over the retaining wall? ;)
