View Full Version : Mmmm project car... 80%

POST

K I still haven't posted pics, but i'm going to do it all on this post.... This is what i have done to the car so far, and its still a project only 80% done.... And i hope that the mess of tools, dust, dirt, and poop will really emphasize that fact.

Here's what i did the last few days....

Today i removed the stock tweeters in the car that were just sitting there disconnected and decided to move my aftermarket tweeters from their ricer location (right up on the ceiling 8 inches from your head) and put them in the stock location.... omg sounds 10x better and is not nearly as bright. I almost bought an EQ to fix the problem. Well now they're hidden - look stock, sound great, and just generally pwnage.

About two days ago also got a new monoblock since my old one was already being maxed out, i had to turn up gains a little too much just to satisfy the damn subwoofers...

Now i have a nice Hifonics Brutus amp powering my twin diamond D6 subwoofers... mmm the amp is great. sounds much cleaner than my old amp too (since the old one had gains up, the eq was all distorted), all the shifts in the music sound correct.

So now i have a leftover monoblock, leftover 4 channel amp, and leftover pair of coax speakers and one subwoofer in my room =S. I can build myself a new small system in another car lol...

But yeah I'm going to post pics in a few secs, please wait!

OK just a reminder. In the case for people who have never met me/my car/know me. My car is ugly. Its old. I still like it. This is a pretty much endless project. Its a fun car to work on and i like doing new shit to it all the time. I don't try and build my car up into something it really isn't.

With that and the fact that my car is a MESS right now.... I now show you these photos which 99% of them were taken at around 6:30 (as shown on my top headunit)

Here ya go:

Anyways... theres them pics. I know I'm not the best at phototaking, I should have cleaned up a bit... err a LOT, and i should have done better work, but considering these are mostly 2-3 hour jobs each amounted into one patchwork blob of project, i think it looks kinda snazzy.

Anyways, there ya go. i'll finish posting up the tar mess in the other thread i made.

newer? this beater is a 94.. had it for about 3 years, then i met notladstyle and since then its been downhill....:crack:

:lol::lol::lol:

Oh and i crashed it once. =D
I remember posting pics about it, you can even see my windshield is still cracked and airbags gone hahahaha.

I always keep saying that i'm finished but i never am =[. For the most part I'm only buying big things if the others break down or something that i got as a gift needs something else upgraded... etc etc.

I think this has been an 8 month project as well? I honestly can't tell you when i started, only that i do something new every couple of weeks.

I really wish that you had a better camera or you took some claritin or something before taking pics because its really hard to see anything in your photos. But i can honestly say its something original and frustrating/fun at the same time. my only gripe is your subwoofer choices! :P

I'd flush those amps with the floor and try to get the floor under those subs. Then hide those fans, put them under the floor...as long as air is ciruclating around the amps you're good, but really you probably don't even need them..

They were for the old monoblock, since it was overheating...They'll be taken out when i get bored...
This fucking amp doesn't even get nearly as hot and its bumping 2x as loud and clear.

As far as the other stuff you said,.... you know how much work that is!?!?!?

I am going to put strong wire/metal mesh where the squares and triangles are, the boards are going to be my false floor to put shit on top of it.

I like how the car is turning out.

the panels and how the box is still uncarpeted isn't the greatest, but it definitely looks decent and presentable right now, which is why i decided to post.

No one noticed but I have no A/c module...:lol::lol:

hahaha i know, I wanted to do something different and obviously it didnt work out well. I just NEED holes there for the amps to get ventilated... I am pretty sure i'm redoing those panels AGAIN, just to make them fit even more snug with the trunk walls and battery and shit.

thanks for the compliments and criticisms :D

Why dont you make that airbag cover the new home for your monitor?

Why dont you make that airbag cover the new home for your monitor?

ugh....

ill explain later... =\

Already tried it, its a big pain in the ass. We made a molding around it, didn't look very pretty.

Then we tried taking out the actual airbag module, its bolted in there with anti-(something) bolts. Which are basically just star bolts with a big pin in the middle... I've tried everything to get them off short of finding a shop that actually has the tool (no, nowhere i know sells them either, not big enough anyways....) I had a plan to put it in there, and have a pushbutton to raise the monitor to use it. Due to the airbag module being in the way, it is a plan that does not work out. So instead i yanked out my A/c control box and fashioned a system for holding the monitor and put it in there. (i NEVER use my A/c anyways so I don't care). IF anything, like when the rainy season hits, I'll wire it up under the passenger part of the dash tucked away so I can turn it on only if absolutely necessary. Problem is, I have to either have the sucker in there or not, since if i leave the wiring intact and only yank the control unit out, it will turn on the A/c on full blast cold, low fan speed and blow it under my seats and on my feet.

Anyways.... I really like that new location now anyways, now when i watch tv, its not as small as it was before since it was so far away...

Wait a second, you live and FL and willingly removed your working a/c??? Why not just relocate the module?

:? I'm from colombia bro. Ecuador used to be part of Gran Colombia. Its hot and humid as balls over there, its not a problem ;).

I only need A/c when it rains because the inside fogs up. Which is why i bought fog-X. But i don't think it'll work as good as an a/c would.

how much did you get the screen for? i'm lookin for one for a car PC i'm building

Update:

Took the fans out like i said. Main reason being I was trying to find out the source of this hideous whine that my amp was emitting to my rear speakers only.... I accidentally yanked the power cord loose, and then decided since i already did that, might as well take the whole thing apart. Found out that it was that I was lazy and used the same ground point for the fans that i was using for the amp, and it was either making a shitty connection or the fans were introducing noise... I really don't care either way, the rear is a LOT more tight and the boards are near-flush again (not raised up like in the photos) and my car sounds cleaner than ever.

Anyways, still have lots of work to do, and I'm thinking of maybe doing the whole trunk in fiberglass.... :crack: See how that works out :-o:lol:

answer to shinmei:

I found that online, paid roughly 115-120 for it i believe. The screen is pretty nice. I've never had any problems with it. Only downside though is that the remote that comes for it SUCKS hardcore... I never use it as a result.
I think it was a moderately priced screen, others say its low... I wish i had gone with the touchscreen though... that way it'd force me into making a carPC... But w/e.

Torx®-Pin Bit (http://www.hudsonfasteners.com/sec/sec_tx_pinbit.htm)
if you get frisky. Dremeling a slot into the top and using a flathead didnt work, or just dremeing the head off?

how huge is huge, that page has up to a t40 listed, and TORX tooling sizing information - Lara Specialty Tools (http://www.lara.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?detailpage=torxsizing&cart_id=5562800.19239) has up to a t100 listed, and that's the equixalent to a 7/8 bolt.

Edit - you could also try drilling out the pin, then using a regular torx

I really don't know how i'd approach that. With my luck I might accidentally drill myself in the eye or something.
