with that excellent prep work, vinyl should be a piece of cake - what are you having trouble with?

heat it lightly(too much and it will deform as it cools), spray a heavy layer of adhesive, T50 staples every 4 inches around the edge.

The only way I can see you having trouble is if you are going at it without staples. I used automotive glue instead of staples before but its a much bigger hassle and it will still give when it gets really hot in the car.

spray the adhesive on heavy, then take it inside with the AC while you lay the vinyl. The adhesive will seat slowly but will still hold it in place so that you have time to pull it tight and staple it.

Better glue. Use the right glue and you may not even need staples. Like I said before, the 3m stuff is junk. You need to get some professional grade shit.

no smoother than 80 grit finish under vinyl...36 is even better. Real glue...nothing that comes in a spray can. heat gun and wet rag to cool vinyl. Staples are just used for added security, not primary attachement.

oh yeah...experience. Gotta do it wrong a couple times :-)

counter top glue in a paint sprayer with compresser on it. spray abit thick then let sit for about 5 mins. apply vinyl and not many staples will be needed

countertop glue being contact cement, and you can just paint brush it on there, paint it on both things you are sticking ( box and vinyl) let it dry, then stick.
