View Full Version : Sound deadening your car is a lot of work....
And a pain in the mother f'ing ass with results that never satisfy, because the minute you get over one hump, in my case finally getting my trunk lid to stop rattling, and turn up the volume some -- theres something else that has to rattle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v671/P057/sadface.jpg
anyways this is how i ended up yesterday, I finished the trunk lid this morning and the bumper.... I'm planning on working on it some more next weekend, mostly the inner trunk walls.
Damn black sticky shit drove me insane, and my hands were all cut up from the sharp edges of my trunk.
****
Ugly ass pics up as soon as they're done being downsized and uploaded...

looks better with the bumper off... LOL j/k what kind of speakers or those?

hahahah weight reduction! I should take em all off ;)
They are Diamond Audio D6 subwoofers. 600wRMS to each speaker, sound nice as hell and i really wish the stupid fucking amp i bought would come in already, my crappy current monoblock is only sending them maybe 800-1000wrms.... i know these puppies take at least 1200 but i have a feeling they do better with more.... especially how i saw notladstyle's D3 (lower line) jump in power dramatically from a 400w amp to 800 watt.
And yes the box is uncarpeted. It was a test box and i liked it so much i haven't taken it out, that and i have to pull out my entire trunk just to get it out and they're heavy.
inside i have polk db5520 components in the rear and polk db6500 components in the fronts.... just fyi

It's fun isn't it! What type of deadner do use?? I just finished my doors the other day :D http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i269/the727kid/Videos006-2.jpg
I did my blazer from the doors back, and it helped a ton. I never got around to the doors, life got in the way.

+1 thats the ugliest deadening job in AHQ history. That door should be too ashamed of itself to rattle. It will keep quiet just to avoid bringing attention to its hideousness.

Audio Empire did my headliner, and RammMat is much cheap than Dynamat and they have excellent customer service.
Rammat is just about as good as the expensive dynamat is and it definitely doesn't cut up your hands. -- something along those lines toby mentioned.
I like it.
I ended up using a great deal of it on my trunk + bumper and still have some left over... and my shit is heavy as hell right now lol!. Im going to try and seal up the inside of the trunk now...
if only they had something to keep my rear windshield from making noise now...

who cares if his door is ugly? your not going to see it anyways. i use second skin audio for my dampening.

I don't :dunno: Not like you see his... My trunk door anyone can see, its ugly and heavy as hell, but it stopped rattling and made my bass sound a little different, a little deeper.
After i finish it i think i'll be pretty happy.

You don't have a lil carpet cover for your trunk lid?
You don't have a lil carpet cover for your trunk lid?
No...? My car is the ghetto, it was always bare metal.
Now its just patchy reflective aluminum with black tar every once in a while.

Lol oo. The Caddy came with a cover, yet again its a Caddy lol. I been to lazy to put it on so all you see is Dynamat Extreme over the shiny metal (used Dynamat for the trunk).

Meh, the hell with your covered trunk doors....
You still never answered my question, is that a dent on your rainbow in that pic? :( sucky if so.

Yea it is unfortantley, I didn't even know until I finished the doors the other day. It doesn't affect the sound at all, but I discovered the speaker is too close to the top of the opening, and a 7mm excursion don't work with that :(. It don't matter though I am glassing my doors soon with another midbass and speaker grills.
