First off, sorry for the cam-phone pics, my buddy has my digital. But since this forum is "dead", I thought I would share.....

I decided to finally install the 6" midbass in the rear deck of the Caddy. I picked up these Audiobahns from Toby's "Garage Sale" awhile back. I know they arent the greatest but definitly an upgrade from the factory 6x9's., and they were rediculously inexspensive.

From this to this...

Pretty beefy for 6"...

Looking over the factory mounting setup, I decided that the easiest way was to use the bracket....

Finished, ready to drop back in the rear deck...

No shots of them in, it was too dark and no flash on my phone. Just use your imagination

Now I need to amp these and my front stage.....

those audiobahns were small and cheap. But DAMN they sound good and are strong as hell too. They were extremely surprising and actually pretty cool.

I bought the 10" woofers he had. 300wrms, and these things are loud and clear...

that looks nice, what are you amping them with?

Thats the next step....

I have a set of RF components up front and I need something to run these and those. Cant decide if Im going to run a 4-channel and fully seperate or just a 2-channel and front and rear them.

They dont sound bad off the HU, but they definetly can take some more.

those are too beefy to pump a full range signal through - they will muck up your highs. they will definitely give you better sound with proper filtering for the front & back.

Free air? You need to get those things in a little enclsoure...they'll sound even better.

I considered that, but Im just using them for rear fill. And I dont want to modify the stock look of the interior anymore than I have to.

They are rated for free-air use and I dont need the low-lows out of them. I have 2 10's that do those just fine. I will have these crossed-over to handle the midbass that makes my 10's sound like crap and my comps cant handle.

I can imagine that these would be great in small enclosures under seats, but just not what I was looking for.

I may start doing some fiberglass in the future, so I may make some kinda pods for under the rear deck for these, but they would probably get swapped out for somethin else before that happens...

A fiberglass pod would be rather easy. Wouldn't even have to really worry about looks considering it's underneath the deck.

+1.

It doesn't even have to be so that it could take advantage of the lower frequencies... It just cleans up the sound a lot better than free-airing it. Make a small enclosure under the speakers, you won't be able to see them unless you're looking from in the trunk and straight up anyways.

Many, if not most, car audio midwoofers are designed with high Qts's to make them work well in infinite baffle (or very large) enclosures, such as car doors. The reason people think they sound better in pods is usually due to the baffle not being sealed front to back (all those extra holes in door panels). All things being equal, a pod will usually cut the low bass response, not extend it. It will also lower the effieciency of the driver, just like a small sub enclosure will. I'd leave them IB.

And finally, I believe that is a paper cone woofer, and will roll off pretty well on the top end, without a crossover. Crossovers add complexity and phasing issues, and really should only be used when absolutely necessary. In the rear deck of your caddy, I think a low pass on that driver is un-necessary.

Thanks Toby. I was kinda thinkin the same thing, and they work quite well just off the headunit now. The Caddy is pretty well sealed off, trunk to pass. compartment. I did open the space up where the arm rest comes down, just to let some of the subs come through easier.

I am definetly going to amp them though...

Will keep everyone posted on how well they handle power and how they sound when amped.

What kind of power numbers are we talking about on these? I'm getting close to pulling out my 12 and doing dual 6.5's, since my cargo area will be more valuable in the next coming weeks

I dont think these would be subwoofer replacements. They are decent midbass/woofers. Rated at 200w RMS, I will see how they handle 100-150w.

It would probably take a T-line or Snailshell/Horn to get these to subwoofer replacement levels and those would take up more room than your 12.

I think there are much better options for small subs out there...

I'm not really looking for sub replacements, just something to give some low end fill when my cargo area gets full

How did you open up the armrest on the seat? I need a lot more air into my trunk, I have my 6x9s left empty and removed my 3rd brake light for air access into the car. BTW I have some front door baffles for 6.5" speakers if u need some.

When I had the upper rear seat out, I removed the hard plastic plate and leather (they are stapled to the seat) and cut the metal cross-bracing to match the opening. With the armrest up, its invisable. Helps some when its down.

I was going to build a rear ported box for my 10's and fiberglass the port through there, like some people do to their rear deck. But I dont know if Im keeping these tens are going a different route.

Thanks for the offer on the baffles, but I already MDF plated the comps in the door, much like yours are. I needed the extra thickness, since the driver mounting depth interfered with the window rolling down (found out the hard way, lol). I have RF P162S's and have the dual tweeters mounted on the plates inside the door mirrors and the drivers in the factory door locations.

Ive read many good things about these... replacement to the Eu-700.

Down to .25cuft sealed, DVC 2 or 4ohm, $75 new from eD. Cant beat em IMO, for what they are.
