ignition help!!!

so this will be hard to expalin but I will try. there is a small piece of metal that goes through the steering collumn from where you put the key to the actual starting mechanism (sorry don't know names) this tiny piece of metal broke from over use and can not be replaced. dealer says I have to replace the whole column and mechanic says I need a rebuild. can someone please help me find this part. right now I got it ghetto rigged....thanx for your time matt

yes it is a 99 dodge neon

That part would be the ignition lock cylinder housing. You can buy a junkyard column and POSSIBLY remove the housing and replace it. We did a Concorde that had no number on the housing, but the boneyard piece could be removed.

I don't know if you can buy the housing from the yard, depends on who you call, they may only sell you a complete column.
