ok well i drive a 420a eclipse, and i was reading up on how 420a neons are swaped with the 2.4 turbo PT cruser/srt4 motor. and wanted to know if anyone knows if this same swap would work on my eclipse? and what would need to be done?
.Seth.

no, the neons dont have 420a's, they have similaritys but u cant swap the 2.4 into ur eclipse w/o major mods,
the neon motors head is better designed and is opposite of the 420a(the header in the back and intake mani in the front)

are you sure, I thought the a588 was intake in front exhaust in rear?
.Seth.

yes im sure, but ive never heard of the a588, wtf is that? lol, the neon engine codes are like de5a or something,, i cant ever remember exactly tho

the a588 is the chrysler engine code for the very similar 420A. The head is on backwards in the eclipse, because the intake is normally on the front. You could do the swap but it would not be something to do over the weekend.

yes, you can drop the srt-4 motor in your eclipse.
yes, you can drop the srt-4 motor in your eclipse.
Post pics and info... all I've seen is Evo 8 motors swapped into 420a based Eclipse's.

yes, you can drop the srt-4 motor in your eclipse.
no u cant, ur a dumbass, they have totally different mounts and you would have to custom fab everything. its just like putting a 4g63 into a neon, it calls for alot custom fab work.

You the guy that need someone to install a clutch for him.
Have you tryed this swap?
.Seth.
04-21-2007, 04:26 PM
^wtf are u talking about installing a clutch? i was selling a clutch, and no i havent tryed it but its pretty apparent, theres different mounts, different axles, its from a completely different car manufacturer(s/p), its like the 4g63 thing, it can fits but it involves alot of custom fab. and its not worth the work.
Go on 2gnt and they will tell you why you can't swap a Neon motor into an Eclipse, so if that isn't possible I don't see how an SRT-4 motor is possible.
It's not a matter of trying it out, its a matter of successfully accomplishing it and being able to keep it running and driving. As far as I am aware of no one has done an SRT-4 swap into the Eclipse and no one has accomplished it successfully.
People ask all the time on 2gnt about the SRT-4 engine or the PT cruiser... those threads get locked and redirected. There's a reason to all of it.
It hasn't been done, not saying it can't be done. But if your going to go through all that work of fabbing and blowing money for a car that weighs more then an SRT-4 its not worth it. Might as well buy an SRT-4.

I bought a motor (srt-4)for a guy for orlando. He pulled it for his 2g n/a eclipse. He used 2.4 stratus mounts and an adapter kit. The motor was in his car. I never said it was an easy swap. Calling people names is uncalled for. I just answer this guy's question. All I said was it fits.

^ima have to say BS b/c u cant use status mounts on a eclipse when they are in a different place, yes they have a 1st gn neon adapater plate but i HIGHLY doubt that it fits a ecl ipse
I'll believe it when I see it.

i guess you guys haven't spent a whole lot of time around hondas. You should know by now that any engine is swappable into any car. Pop the hood of a 12 different hondas, and you won't find the same engine/tranny/chassis combo twice.
If you have access to a welder, then any engine can be swapped. Some might take more effort than the others, but if you get the engine harness, ecu, complete engine w/ tranny, and mounts, all you need is to figure out how to weld the mounts in place. Assuming that the cars have similar wheelbases. If they don't, then it might take some custom axel work too.
There is no such thing as "can't be done" If you have the time, money, and desire, anything can be done.
what these people are trying to say when they say it can't be done is that it is alot of work.
most people, when they come across something difficult, they just say it can't be done.
good luck with your swap
.Seth.

^wow dude, u have no idea wat ur talking about
most hondas have the same mounts for the most part and are easy as fuck to swap. ive heard of ppl swapping them in a couple hrs.
norachelhere
04-23-2007, 06:49 PM
yeah, most swaps the mounts are close enough that you don't have to fab a whole lot. but if you are planning on making alot of power, then you have to remove, and reweld the mounts in the proper locations, otherwise you'll break them off. i've been there, done that.
.Seth.

well ill not saying it cant be done, im saying its not worth the $$ to go it, will cost alot more than just turboing a 420a(which will respond well to boost if done right) and ull make about the same HP
How does Honda Motors/Trans compare to SRT-4 Motors/Trans?
That's like comparing an apple to a pumpkin.
Honda's are interchangable. They already make motor mounts and such to successfully complete engine swaps. Not to the mention the fact that its a HONDA motor going into a HONDA.
Never said it CAN'T be done. Just not worth the time... and definately not worth the money involved to make it work.

^+1, this comes from 2 neon(yes a SRT4 is a neon lol) owners, its hard enough to get the 2.4T in the 1st gen neon and make it run and driver good

is it any page that can tell me all i need for the swap with out bullcrap and i was wondering about the wiring . can i use the stratus computer with its wiring harnest?? or i have to use the neons computer and wiring?
.Seth.
04-29-2007, 02:10 PM
well u could probley use teh stratus harness but u have to use the FULL harness. but go to neons.org, they have alot of good shit on there as far a information.

.Seth.
04-29-2007, 02:30 PM
im not 100% sure, i know u can match a 2.0 tranny w/ a 2.4 motor but im not sure about the other way around, but i dont see why not.
like i said look on neons.org they have some GREAT info

Then why am I Driving a '97 gs with an A588 under the hood?
my roommate jumped a belt on the freeway. the jumped belt broke when it got between another pulley and pulled off that belt too. leaving the vehicle without power steering, or power from alt. water pump was safe because that is drivin by the timing belt
when i was doing the initial damage assessment i saw some little things that were a little odd. this pushed me to check up on the block number. to my surprise, A588. block cast number (4667662)
the car bein new to me by about 2 months i never really looked into it until now (daily driver).
the more i look into it the more conflicting info i get.
either way it boils down to the cast # says its an A588. the exhaust manifold in the front, intake in the rear.
in summation do i have an A588?
sorry to steal any thunder from op.

yeah i ended up stripping it and getting rid of whatever was left of the car. i bought the 4 door 2.4 that was built and swapped the motor into my acr. i was going to build this 2.4 but found a running biult 2.4 which was cheaper in the long run.
