People want to know why paint work is so costly....without looking at labor costs, I just went to the paint store to day to stock up on materials for a job I am painting this weekend and these is what I got....
1 Gallon of Diamont White paint (color code GM 8624)
1 Gallon of Diamont tri-coat paint (color code Toyota 051)
1 Gallon of Diamont UR50 mid temp reducer
1 Gallon of DC92 Diamont clear (with 42 series hardener)
1 Box of 1/2 inch foam tape (for the door jambs etc...)
My total cost 938.88
Granted I bought alot of paint (its a big car) and its a tri stage job. But still you can see why a good paint job is so expensive.

I know I bought alot of paint but I am painting jambs and trunk as well and wanted to make sure I had enough. Besides my vehicle is 8624 so if I dont use it all i can still use it. I am just going to be upset if I dont use most of the pearl as I will have no real need for it :(
The cougar is a big car and I think I will use atleast 3 quarts of the mid coat. didnt want to run short on it though.
I will post pics when I am done. Pushed it back to friday due to some fine detail work that needed to be attended to...

yea you bought WAAAY TOO MANY GALLONS, why dont you go learn how to paint abd buy your materials right, i mean wtf, waste of paint, gonna ruin the earth, and after the job you have to throw the rest away, since everyone knows that you cant use it anymore after one job.

yeah...I painted the door jambs tuesday night and I decided to use 2 coats of the Mid coat. I could have gotten away with 2 quarts but I decided that i am going to use the remains to flame out my truck when finished. So it will not go to waste.

Thats scary.....2 coats will do it for me. The customer wants just a touch of pearl so that should be more than enough.

There are also some minor dents sunroof has some issures but I am switching to a glass roof anyways. Let me know a ball park

NOT SCARY my customer wanted all those coats of pearl he wanted it to jump out at you i sprayed 4 different test cards 2 coats 5 coats 9 coats he picked the 9 so thats what i did.... and 2 coats of pearl doesnt do it for even a factory blend job nissan puts 3-4 caddys use 5 ect ..... dont do much collision do ya if you put 2 coats especially on a blend you will notice the difference.....

lude till i die as far as cost for your paint depends on the paint you choose best thing to do is to look at chips then go from there .... also another variable is what paint ppg alone has a few lines like omni,deltron,global,autocolor...... deltron and global are pretty much the same thing just deltron usually is cheaper depends on the color .... the clear is where its going to hit your pocket a gallon of compliant clear which is good for show cars is 147.00 alone then you have to have the reducer and the hardner ....

yea i painted a fender and for some reason the paintflow/air was off
it dried orange peel ..so i WET sanded it with 1200 grit.. then buffed it then hit it with WET 2000 grit....used polishing compound came to a nice mirror shine...looked just like the factory paint..
But even I fuck up some times ... It was my bad i tried to cover it to much with 2 heavy coats i should a took my time and did light skim then 3 nice light coats of clear.
Get in a rush during painting and you pay for it with the extra time you use wetsanding and buffing but atleast It can be fixed with wetsanding and buffing.

yeah your right...I dont do much collision work.....I only work at a collision center during the day. I put two coats on this car cuz that is what the customer wanted. It is not a factory nissan nor a caddy so why would you even bring that up? Nor is it a blend job. We could sit here and see who could pee farther but I have better things to do with my time.
Just think if you were to go about your business instead of threadjacking you could have put about 11 more coats of pearl on something...
to the dood asking a reasonable question instead of being a dick yes I use 1200 on a da with a soft interface pad on the da. Cut down the dirt nibs and get the overall look that you desire on the panel then put a trizact 3000 pad on the da and wetsand it till it looks almost lightly polished than buff. I would use 3M buffing products. If you buy a cheaper product it will probably do the job but for the money its worth it to use the 3m buffing system.
by the way here is a pic of the car finished. I am sure mr. smarty pants will have a comment...

^ dude, there is no pearl in that car, i sure as hell cant see any, maybe if you would have put like 20 or so coats and had a overall mill. Thickness of like 3 feet then maybe i could see it. Bass boat!
but that guy is right we dont work at a collision center, we work at a plantation...

i hear everyone talking about putting lots of coats on a car but you cant because it will never get hard.. you would leave finger prints in the paint everytime you touched it...
