people have suggested that plenty of times the only problem is anyone can wait 5 days without bitching up a storm and then go crazy after the 5 day is up... but i do agree its a good idea.

TR doesnt atract morons/thiefs/ricers/fanboys like Honda-Tech does. This limit would not benefit TR unless TR gets about 50,000 more members.

I like it. LEts implement it.

You have to balance forum growth and weeding out the idiots.

Simply turning on email verification kills about 20% growth, turning on admin approval on registration kills about 30% growth. Those two options alone could cause the site to come to a screetching growth halt. People do not want to wait to do their thing. They want their TR and they want it now.

And before you start bitching about we dont need growth, we lose people everyday. It's a fact of life. People stop working on cars, death in the family, ilness, school, interests change, etc.

I would prefer the admins become more active in removing problem members, then to add any more obstacles for new users. If we ever do get the size of a 100,000 member forum then maybe a more automated system will be needed like honda-tech has.

how the hell are they supposed to do that? look at the spyshot incident, fucker got banned and he came back in the matter of MINUTES and then nothing else was done. You need to work the ban stick so its like a ban hammer not a ban wet noodle

Pretty much what Aharon said. From a personal stand point, I dont even bother with sites that make me wait it out or a private viewing. I want to the be able to see how goof the forum is before I waste my time signing up.

This is how the internet works, not how TR works.

I can ban the username, I can ban the IP address.

A user can register a new username, and obtain a new IP address.

I cant work miracles here.

If you ban the ip AND the user enought times he will get the point, you act like its a lost hope but this isnt just spyshot, its everybody that gets banned from this site. Like the scammers in the for sale section, I know from previous posts that when users log on and scam TR members they would get banned and then just re-log on. Nothing else happens after the user gets banned the first time, its like "oh well, I banned him once, there is nothing else I can do"

As Aharon pointed out, we only have but a few tools at our disposal. Secondly, our staff is not paid, all of us have jobs that we get paid to do (and often neglect b/c of this site) that are priorities. We can't read every thread or post, scan every new member (TR itself averages 40-50 new members per day) while simultaneously performing other functions on this site that require our attention, as well as attend to our real life obligations. We do the very best we can, but we have to rely on what is brought to our attention.

Stop insinuating that we do not care or that we are being too light on purpose. We are doing all that we can, trust me.

We all work full time jobs and none of the admins get paid. I think you are really getting the best support you can for the price point you are paying.

Have we repeatedly banned people that keep reregistering? Of course, we dont just stop at the first time. Some people have been rebanned over 30 times. For free.

The minute we are payed to take this on as our full time jobs, I will hire people to sit around and keep rebanning banned individuals. For the moment though, we will reban them as soon as someone spots them and notifies us and we get a free moment.

I can see what alot of you guys mean, but now that i can see a little more behind the scenes its quite a bit different. I totally understand the admins point now.. with that said, we (mods) all try to let the admins know when a user is making new names, and it seems they get to it when they have a chance.
