As some of you guys already know Im putting a 2JZ in my 240. out with the SR and in with a 2JZ. it has been about 1 1/2 months gathering all the parts that I have needed. The thing about this swap is that its a
2JZ NA-T. here are some progress of the motor and some pics of my engine bay finally painted instead of flat black. since motor was coming out might as well paint it up!!!!! We are expecting the finally pieces within the next two weeks to get this thing fired up. My goal is in the range of 400 to 450 after all is said and done. will probably have to upgrade the fuel system to achieve this but for now want to get it up and running then start modding that. take a look at the pics and let me know what you think.

should look good. i dont know alot about 2j interchangability, but i know the stock supra TTs do 400-450 on their stock injectors. i bet u can find some stock TT injectors lying around. if it fits, i would throw on a stock TT intake manifold and injectors/rail. NA-T piping FTL! lol.

NA and TT motors are the same internally. My NA-T was down right nasty...it was on an untouched bottom end. Stock motors (GE/GTE) are proven to put down 800+rwhp reliably DAILY.

The NA intake manifold is not a restriction in any way, especially for his power goals. Boost logic and PM Performance proved this by dynoing over 700rwhp on stock intake manifold setup + ignition (stock plug wires too!). So in conclusion, although it may be an eye sore to some, it's in no way harming the engine's power capabilities.

GE and GTE rods are identical, pistons on the N/A do not have as deep of a dish in them, hence higher compression.

The only difference on the block is the drilled and tapped bosses for the oil feed/return/oil squirters.

you would be surprised how cheap the NA motors are, ive bought for under $150 for a complete running motor.

buy $200-400 GTE rods an pistons $100 bearings, Headgasket an headstuds ($200) and as long as you have a engine harness an AEM, good to go.

you basically have a 2JZ for under $1000 (minus trans an etc)

Jordan T
03-28-2007, 05:29 PM
or get a complate 1J with turbos for $1100. but 1J's are for queers.

pheobo

Mainstream, looks good.

Looks like an RPS exhaust manifold.

Also, finished pics? We had to modify our upper water neck to fit a normal intake.

Why go through the fender on the hot IC pipe? Why not use that for cold air intakes and go direct to IC. I would assume it'll lower the volume of the IC pipes by shortening the length of the pipe, hence spooling quicker.

Looks good!

This is my NA-T..
http://www.clubna-t.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/myna-tsetup%20060.jpg

I also own and operate ClubNA-T.com;

The NA motors can make just as much power as the 2JZ-GTE.. because they are technically the SAME motors. The GE has higher compression which could be fixed with a thicker headgasket (2mm recommended) and you have yourself a bullet proof motor that will handle more power than you can shake a stick at.

On my black NA-T the only way you can tell its not a GTE is by looking at the top radiator hose location which is on the driver side as opposed to passenger side.

Very nice car, i have an NA-T supra here with a TH350 and 42R with GTE internals.

Now, correct me if im wrong, but ive heard the NA pistons are actually physically weaker, tend to crack ringlands.

I also know that the NA rods are WAY smaller than the GTE rods, ive seen that first hand from the motors i have built.

My roomate has a 450whp IS300, his motor never had any issues, but he blew trannys up.

Well the GE rods you are looking at are VVTI GE bottom ends. the VVTI bottom ends are the only out of the group that are blessed with the crummy rods.

The pistons are psychically made the same way on the GE and GTE.

There are cars out there running 8's and 9's on bone stock GE bottom ends.

Here is a video of Dave H running mid 9's on a $200 spare motor he had laying around, this means STOCK head, STOCK bottom end.. only cracked it open to throw on a head gasket. His last motor lasted him 4 years of abuse @ 34psi + 175 shot direct port nitrous.

Looks good Chris, let me know if you want the number for the guys in Miami that had the 2jz powered white s14 kouki at HIN. They were cool guys and said they would help anytime with info, and just general trouble shooting. They also said they could get you the cool clear valve cover cheap?? Anyway, it looks great man, keep it up.

I know you know, but make sure you get some barrier for that BMC, it looks really close to that mani..

He should see 400's on the current turbo, but honestly there isnt a power "goal".
I see this car having a big single in the future. :)

Should be running this weekend... I already have a good base map for his MAP ECU which will need minimal tuning.

Alot of people have to use a Keyspan USB - Serial adapter .

When tuning DSMLink you can't use a normal cable you must use a keyspan .. I've also tuned a MAP ECU with a keyspan adapter . They run about 50 or so but well worth the amount spent

We're just going to use a laptop with a Serial port, no more usb->serial wires. I had luck with mine on me AEM EMS on both my cars but the MAP ECU doesn't like it.

Got the car tuned perfect now for the boost it is set at, but ran into a slight mechanical problem which is going to delay the car being released into the wild by another week at most. I was not present when Chris was installing the cams and he accidentally applied too much sealant on the #1 exhaust cam cap and blocked an oil passage... so a new head will be installed this week and the car will be ready to roll!!

So without prying too far, approximately how much was spent on this swap?

Any way we could get a price breakdown? Even though I'm sure it comes with a slight employee hook-up.

Also, did you guys document the whole swap for maybe some sort of write-up?

I think TR definitely needs a write up section dedicated to only the well written/documented write ups, esp. for stuff like this.

You are looking anywhere near $10K-15K depending on the turbo components used. In this case we used a Peter Farrell manifold, SP57 turbo, Tial 38mm W/G, MAP ECU 2, 550cc injectors. We are the first in the country to do the NA-T swap on a 240.

This car is downright NASTY, going to throw in a new head this coming week (Maybe by Monday????)

I will give you a shopping list of the things you will need to make this swap happen:

Motor (2JZ-GE or GTE)
Motor Mounts
Custom Clutch Lines
If you do with the 2JZ-GE you NEED to make braided lines for your brake booster
2JZ-GE or GTE Engine Harness
2JZ-GE or 2JZ-GTE ECU
S13 or S14 Engine Harness (depends on your application)
Modify the 2JZ Harness
Custom 1 piece driveshaft
We used a Dakota Digital SGI-5 to get the Speedo to work and a Dakota Digital SGI-8 for the Tachometer
Electric Fans (Belt driven fan will not fit.)
Sway Bar spacers to clear oil pan
Piggy back (We used the MAP ECU2)
Injectors
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Braided Fuel Lines w/ Heat jacket since they are on the exhaust side of the motor now.
Walbro or Supra TT Fuel Pump
Koyo Radiator
IC piping
etc....

It adds up in the end but I can defiantly say its worth it. :D

Curious, did you have to do any adjusting to the valve shims? I've got a little tap in mine with the new cam on one or two valves.

Well the numbers sucked to be honest...the mapecu that I am using is pretty much worthless for my application...it ran too rich..and no matter how much fuel we pulled out it seemed the factory ecu took over, driving around not in boost runs great. I am getting the AEM after all. then we will post the numbers. here is the best we got today..running at 10.3 A/F under boost..could not lean it out... the Torque was like 443. but HP was only 209... pretty messed up numbers if you ask me. the wheels also started to slip on the dyno..I dont have a lot of tread left on those tires.
Give me about a week or so and I will hopfully have the aem. I have posted up in a few places looking for one. thanks again Alpha for the help... when AEM get wired in YOU will be tuning it again,..lol
Thanks again

Alpha

I'm still a little emo I couldnt get it worked out. MAP-CAL2 or something is odd. I dont have a lot of experience with it but enough experience tuning. Drove the car with Kirk. A:F was 10.8:1 - 11.5:1 depending upon the load. Got to the dyno and a:f went into the 9's. I took a lot of fuel out of the original map and it barely broke into the 10's. Spun the tires on the dyno that pull. Oh well. I will try and find you an AEM EMS here shortly
