course thread drywall screws, but the screws are not the strength - glue! use good wood glue! the screws just hold it tight until the glue drys,
i predrill with a counter sink -

+1 for drywall screws. I don't predrill unless I'm using a thinner and/or finishing wood. Wood glue is definetly the key though.

i atleat countersink them. use alot of glue.

glue ftl. three layers of resin ftw. less messy and can hold water.

why does your speaker box need to hold water? just use wood glue, its easier and cheaper.

Got another one. Wood glue holds better than anyother type of adhesive, say liquid nail?

Ive built some boxes before, but my next one is going to look like I paid $1,000 for it. My last few were my "rookie boxes"

liquid nail holds better of course. they build houses with the stuff. I used to use liquid nail for my boxes but the added strength isn't worth the hassle since the wood would still be the weakest link. Just use wood glue and coat the interior of the box with resin for a 100% airtight enclosure.

1. because holding water is gangster.

2. because wood is porous - This was proven in front of me by Toby. He used a simple shop vac(20psi max) and created enough suction to lift a second piece of 3/4" mdf through the first sheet.

If a weak vacuum with such low pressure can pull that much air through a 3/4" piece of wood - you can imagine what kind of pressure you could be losing with the intense force a subwoofer produces.

3. wood glue gets brittle as it dries and will spring leaks over time.

notladstyle is correct - use tightbond 2 wood glue and screws/nails to hold together until glue dries, cault the seams with silicone, and for highoutput boxes looking for that little more, coat the box in a layer of resin

well i figured caulk or silicone was a given, obviously mdf is pporus, its dust glued together, you guys all seemed to swear by it though

I normally just CA the panels together with a Grabber brand screw in there once or twice, and then caulk the insides.

I use 3/4" wood held together by course drywall screws and liquid nails then the seems are coated with silicone. Carpet it and call it a day. Im not trying to win any competitions and the box sounds fine to me
