Im going to be putting 4000 watts (2000 wrms) to 2 kenwood amps and also running a 4 channel amp for my highs. I have an 05 GT that comes stock with a 130 amp alternator. Im planning on gettin a 5 farad capacitor, but was unsure on what would work better. should i get an extra battery for the system or upgrade the alternator?

upgrade alt and get a 2nd battery.

if you're TRULY grabbing those wattages -- If you're planning on maxing your system out all the time for competition (which i really doubt) you'd probably need all three, your alt is definitely going to see too much demand and will not sustain those power requirements.

2nd battery will help prevent killing your main battery.

But this all depends on what you're using it for.

The capacitor will only help you for those quick bass bumps (non contiguous) and the 2nd batt will just be a pro-longer, better used for when you listen to your system while off.

Basically the only thing you REALLY need to do is upgrade your alternator and upgrade the big three. You should be fine after that. Make sure to do a lot of testing beforehand to see how your car reacts to the changes so you don't get yourself stranded somewhere or the car dies in the middle of a loud, bass intensive song in the middle of an intersection.

Toby and Dalton will pipe in here relatively soon to tell me that i'm only giving a general and not very accurate answer and will proceed to type up an essay on the subject. ;)

Alt always helps. I am not 100% on it is a must though. I am holding steady 13.x voltage on full tilt with my stock alt (and my amps are seeing a .375 load). After a while of play it will eventually drop to 12.8 and chill, but I typically don't even keep it up that long. Basically if your respectful with your system (turn down at lights and neighborhoods) your alt should be able to recharge the batteries just fine.

Im assuming "full tilt" is full volume and claiming 13.8 on a stock alt is worthy of the bs flag. even with the batteries.

lol volume 22 doesnt mean squat to anyone but you.

my volume loudness maxes at 18 and after that it becomes beyond painful to listen to, plus i think its just fucking up all my speakers at that point. meanwhile a buddy of mine brings his up to 70 just to match my 15. ;)

Not claiming a steady 13.8 but I am claiming a steady 13.x at the amps. Maybe I will take a video with the DMM on the amps.

lol back to the subject at hand.. my subs and amps come tomrro and im goin in a day or 2 to get another amp and capacitor from P057. lookin at either running a larger stinger (or equivalent) or if need to be just do an alternator. its hard to find one for my car tho

I would say a minimum of 2 runs of 0/1 power if you want to run your stock alt. And very well put grounds (get out that DMM and find place with least resistance). Big 3 done to 0 guage and a strong front battery and a strong battery in the rear. Actually I would say a single Eagle Pitcher Horzion battery should do you good with 2 runs of 0/1.
