Saturday, March 17th...Ocala Ironbutt #2 Ride

[Slo Poke]

This ride will be to the Ocala Natl Forest....we will be meeting up with a group from FSB (Florida Sportbikers) and will be riding in the forest. I may take a more direct route to get there faster so we can spend more time on the forest roads, but that may change...So get some sleep and show up refreshed, geared up and ready for a full day of riding!!!!!

Meeting Spots & Times:

Tampa/Pinellas - Marathon @ Collier & SR 54 6:45am, KSU 7:00am
Hernando- Citgo @ Blanton Rd 1.5 miles east of I-75 7:45am, KSU 8:00am


As always...wear your gear and ride within your limits. Pace will be FIC/SIS (Fast in corners/slow in straights)...until we get to the forest...then its a free for all!!!!!!!! :)

ive got a little more refined route to avoid those 2 little citys where we saw polices (and got "flashed")....we will get there a little faster, so we can run a couple of the forest roads north of SR40 and maybe 1 or 10 laps around Sugarloaf as well..... :)

come across the HF to I-275 northbound, go north into Pasco County...get off on the first exit after I-275 and I-75 merge (in Pasco County) which is State Road 56....go west (left) on SR56 to your 3rd stoplight...the Marathon is on the right (north) side of the road at that light (which is Collier Parkway)...very easy to get to....

i normally have a little riders meeting before we take off on the rides that i lead...we discuss the roads, pace and review some group riding rules...

i want to remind everyone now that this ride is Fast in the Corners, Slow in the Straights....that means that i generally keep the pace in the straights @ 10-15MPH above posted speed limits, but in the corners i have no regard for the law....once we get to the forest, the sweepers get plentiful and the pace will get much quicker....

bottom line is that i dont want anyone to get sucked into riding faster than their abilities or comfort level...this can be aleviated by each person riding his/her own ride at his/her own pace....WE WILL WAIT FOR EVERYONE AT EACH STOP/TURN.....so there will be no excuse for riding over your head.....

i will reiterate this on the morning of the ride during the pre-ride meeting @ each meet up spot....i know it sounds kinda crazy, but it really helps and i know we all just want to have a great time and a great ride.....

so post up of you are in, so we know what to expect...i have posted a rider list and will update it as peeps commit or drop out....

Ive had the pipe for probably 1500 miles...I absolutely love it...A huge reason I got it, is because it sounded great and was in perfect condition for 150.00...:D

Long story Short. We had a "Little" run in with the local fuzz.

alright, im over it enough to talk now....

basically we were set-up and knabbed by the Lake County Sheriffs office while returning from Ocala....Kawie636 had split from the group in Eustis and we (Vader, Joswe and myself) we heading south on SR19 and coming across Little Lake Harris bridge and were picked by patrol...mind you we were not speeding or breaking any laws when he got about 4 cars behind us before crossing the bridge...on the bridge, which is a small 2 lane with curb on each side (very tight), there was an old man draggin a small trailer that had literally lost a tire off the right rim and was going less than walking speed across the bridge....we passed this hazard in a double yellow on the bridge (as did the 7 cars in front of us)...STRIKE 1....instead of pulling us then, the deputy began following us while radio-ing ahead to keep tabs on our location....we made the turn from SR 19 to 48/19 south of Howey-in-the-Hills and proceeded south on SR19...again, no excessive speeds although we were running about 20MPH over the posted 55 in that area....we made a turn off onto a cut-off road (Obrien road) which is very rural with nice twisties and good pavement, lots of groves, much like Jessamine Road....where we proceeded to pick up the pace....i was leading and knowing the road, i took off....the deputy turned off just behind us but out of Vaders mirror, until he hit the lights and started chasing me...WE HAD JUST ENTERED A 35 MPH SPEED ZONE...this is mostly due to the sharp turns in the road...Vader and Joswe proceeded in the opposite direction (as they should have) and got the fug out of Dodge...whilst i was setting a good pace on the road, the cop was having trouble catching me (imagine that) and almost crashed his shit "3 or 4 times" according to him....the road has a small straight that goes over the Fla Turnpike with a bridge and i was running very slowly on the straight and looking in my mirror for Chris and Joswe...after the next set of turns came and no Chris or Joswe yet, i just ripped through the next set of turns heading to toward the end of the road, knowing the road is not that long and dead-ends and would wait there....4 or 5 turns in to the next set....i do a mirror chech and see the fuggin lights....so i pull over......

i was given a manditory court date for "Reckless Driving", which is a criminal offense...because i passed on a double yellow line and excessive speed.....Vader and Joswe are charged with the same thing as the police had their tags on camera....

couple of choice phrases from the 3 deputies that were on the scene....

It doesnt matter.... My tag, my bike , and my ticket. That was brought up before I asked. We all have dates with the judge. The funny thing was even after we split when he pasesed us to get Chad. The deputy couldnt have been cooler to us. It helped he had 24 hours to cool off before being face to face with me and the other dude to issue us tickets. He was behind us for while doing 50 over the limit so he had enought to make it stick. We were given the option to "Man up" and go back and get our tickets signed or there would be a Hernando deputy at our door to take us in. He clearly had our taqgs on video. That I know for sure because he used the tape to get my plate number for the ticket.

i understand what ur sayin Raul...but thats 12 in 12 for me...2 schools aready taken in the last 12 months and if this sticks its a mandatory 4 points...i will be losing my license for 6 - 12 months....even with a lawyer...so that means work permit only...im done street riding for at least that time...soooooo....ZX-10R for sale coming soon.....

any this is where i don't agree... at least for owning a sport bike. riding around slow sucks and i'd rather just drive my car if i wanted to do that.


which means all this sucks even worst for someone like me, who doesn't ride enough as it is... now they are taking away the only part i enjoy.

i gotta agree with john there.... going slow doenst = having fun. I, too, would rather not ride than have to ride slow everywhere worried about the man. This is getting rediculous on the street, im probably gonna do the track bike mod becaues i cant lose my license

Everyone... Go ahead and give up riding,,, I been there too. Sold my bike to start a family... guess what? It lasted about 5 years... I now know, It may take more than my fair shares of runs with the law & surgery to get me to stop riding.

You guys are mostly bummed out about something you already knew was there before you bought your bikes. I know cause I felt the same way when I got arrested... well... changed my mind the same day when I rode my bike back home...

Do you stop playing basketball because you break an ankle?
Do you stop playing football after breaking a collar bone?
Do you stop playing pool after you sink the 8 ball on a break and the pool shark kicks your ass into next week?
Do you stop taking showers cause you slipped & got stitches on your head?

How carefull can we be before we make our lives dull?

Even a slow ride with friends is better than not riding at all... besides, if there is anything I learned from my accident is that we should be more prudent on th streets, so that in the very least we can ride a lifetime.
