I've decided to up my sub from a 10" JL W3V2 to a 12" subwoofer. The amp I purchased is a Directed D2205. I would like to get a sub that matches well to the output of this amp. It will be going in a sealed enclosure in the back of my Jeep Wrangler. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My brother started suggesting all kinds of subs, but I really don't know much about subs other than Kicker's. I was always a big Kicker fan, and after reading on here I'm thinking I could get a better sub for my money.

You'll have a tough time fitting a 12" sub in the back of a Wrangler unless you take the back seat out. If you 're looking to keep the back seat though, I've found the best enclosure to be a single 10" in a down-firing box. 2 8's in a down-firing box would be another option, which can get surprisingly loud.

I have the 1 JL 10 back there now. It sounds good, but not enough bass for my taste. It'll be tight, but I can get 1 12 back there. Sad to say, but I'm leaning back to Kicker. I just know what to expect sound wise with them. I've always heard all these great things about JL, and the sub didn't quite meet my expectations. A lot of that is probably due to the inept sound machine also known as a Jeep Wrangler.

What size is your box? That's why I'm saying it will be tough to get a 12 back there...the sub itself will fit, but a box big enough to make it sound good won't. You'd be better off getting a better 10 or 8" sub in which case you would be able to give it the proper sized enclosure. The thing about a down-firing box is it will be a bit louder as well, considering the Wrangler has no cabin pressure. I've done this in many Jeeps, it sounds good...but you'll never get it sounding like a hard top car could. That's one of those things you have to give up with a Jeep.

My current box is angled to match the back seat. I'm using less than half of the width to achieve .66 cu ft. I bought my current box premade (off some guy on ebay). I was lazy. I can build a MUCH better box than the one I have now. It's downfiring as well. Sounds good, just doesn't have the low end I want.

I've checked about 5 sites, and I can't find what that amp puts out to the sub...even directed's site didn't seem to say. So, I can't reccomend a sub.

As John said, its going to be tough to get 'low end' in a Wrangler...you don't get the cabin gain you get from a car. Depending on what kind of music you listen to, I'd suggest a ported 10 or pair of 8's, or maybe a bandpass.

I'd try a bigger box and maybe some polyfill before you swap subs all together.

Then you'll love Audio HQ...

Seriously, a bigger box might help, or, I sell a processor called the Maxbass that will help you get more bottom end. Its not a bass boost, or an epicenter. Its actually a car version of a very popular studio processor. How it works is much too much typing, but it is very sophisticated, and very good.

If you can get to your amp easily, I could put one in your jeep, and demo it for you, in about 5 minutes.

Trust him on this one, if you don't know what he's talking about, you have to see this in action, it makes it literally sound like bass is coming out of the speakers very very well. Almost like a mini subwoofer.

And you've only heard it on regular speakers. It does wonders for subs, as well.

I've dealt with epicenters they're a great way to go. but as tj keeps saying the box will make a big difference, your box is .66 cubes a bigger box tuned right will help alot.
ust my .02$

Epicenters, imo, suck. Nothing but a glorified bass boost. They analyze higher frequencies, and 'recreate' the lower ones. This increases amp load and sub excursion.

The maxbass does the opposite, it analyzes lower freqs, and creates harmonics in higher octaves, causing you to 'hear' bass that actually isn't there. This decreases amp load and sub excursion.
