Our January event in St Petersburg was a wild success -- 62 cars, six runs apiece, everyone had a blast. All of you in the Tampa area have no excuse not to be there!

Site security regulations require pre-registration for this one...if you want to get through the gate, you must put your name on the list before 8 February.

Since someone destroyed the gate recently, it is really easy to get in. I wonder if it will be fixed before the next event?

Need to put yourself on the list somehow, otherwise we can't let you through the gate. Register and put a note to the registrar you're just coming in to watch -- I'll catch it.

I think that because its prereg only, they'll let it go a little higher than at SPC since there's always going to be some no-shows. Of course, I'm not running the show so I dunno.

Native

Alizarin is all-knowing

Yeah, we're gonna run it up a bit - we expect some folks to not show, and as Jamie has pointed out (somewhere...) the airport site is big enough to handle a few extras compared to SPC. No worries...

And for the rest, registration will be cut off at 90 entries. We're at 76 now, so if you are planning to come out and aren't on the list, make yer move.

As of 3:52PM, there are 89 pre-registered for this event. I expect we'll be full by this evening. I will maintain a waiting list for anyone who wants to show and hope there are some holes...send a note to wedrivefaster@yahoo.com by 5pm tomorrow and I'll add you to the access roster as a guest. No later...I'm turning in the roster tomorrow night.

mofugga

nope, airport requires the attendance list be turned in x days before the event, registration closes & the list is given to the airport. you'd need a time machine to register.

Gate will close at 9am. For any hope of a 10am drivers' meeting, we'll need that hour to finalize run groups and work assignments, and for the guys working registration/gate to get their cars set up and inspected.

freezing at daybreak, as in dawn. As soon as the sun is a little over the horizon, it's gonna warm up quick...shoot the high is gonna be near 60 - that's not cold.

The management at FAST will proudly state that we run consistently smooth events and always make every attempt to maximize seat time

uh, more runs? hells yeah!

Even with the large crowd we accepted at registration, we're looking to do our usual...we had over 60 drivers at SPC last month, a 45 second course, and everyone got 6 runs. No reason to think tomorrow's event won't be similar.

I heard talk of investing in a bullhorn to help wrangle people. I think things could have gotten started an hour earlier with better long-range communication. But the biggest thing that kept the number of runs down was the course. Insufficient "overlap". We could only start a car about every 45 seconds... typical is more like 30-35... less than 30 is what it takes to get more than 6 runs.

Still, the course was fun if you weren't prone to getting lost on it (LOOK AHEAD!) as some were. Things definitely came up fast as you neared the finish!

To all who pussed out due to the weather... you really missed out on a great day. I was even down to a t-shirt for a while it was so warm.

Ah, well, who knew?

So, ok, 4 runs. On a really challenging course. It was a smooth-flowing, fast course that rewarded being ahead of yourself. The event ran without a snag. I'd say it was good. See ya'll again next time.

it's a function of course design... sure the turn arounds are challanging but the event would have flowed much quicker had their not been the huge overlap.. i'm not complaining he event was awesome. it's just airport courses will all have the same problem. unless you an stage at one end and finish at the other hummmm.. anyone for rally scoring best outbound and inbound time combined.

CFR SCCA did a couple of events like that last summer. We'd run about a half-dozen cars and hold them at the far end, bring back the group, run another half-dozen, bring 'em back, and so on. It was certainly nice having the whole width of the runway to work with, and there was certainly no problem with multiple cars on course! The event flow wasn't as quick, of course, because of the pauses necessary to bring cars back to the start end.

Winundada, Please sign up for the school, I promise you'll not regret it, we are 1/2 full allready so don't wait. I am working on the lesson plan tonight. I'm gonna stress the importance of visualizing the course during the walk through. I am sure a good focused walk would have elminated many of those off course excursions. and I admit if you were not aware or looking out your side windows it was very difficult to see "through" the corners.

with that airport being active we will never be able to "drive around" and restage. and having a northbound and southbound run in the same event would create some more intresting results. 3-4 runs in each direction.

With a little practice, they were able to move things quickly. However, I don't think it is worth the effort. I found the courses no more challenging or interesting when using the full width of the runway.
