My buddy goes to Fullsail and is learning how to do home theater ect. Now, he told me that there are seat shaker systems for home theater systems that rumble the shit out of your lazyboy or water-bed or whatever, I want to put these in my car and see what happens. Now my question is if anybody has any experiance with these things? Will the shakers fit under my seat without screwing up my driving position? Has anybody done this before?

The correct term is Tactile Sound Transducers. And no, these aren't the old Aura bass shakers. The good ones are made by Clark Sound. They are not just for bass, either...they play up to about 17khz. They also have some real force...the low end ones generate over 200 ft lbs. of torque, the top line, over 900, and with less than 200 watts.
You hear sounds through 5 different pathways, not just waves and pressure entering your ear. Basically, it will make the sound come from inside you, and not just bass. Imagine 'feeling' every string pluck and cymbal tap. They also make whatever they are attached to act like a big speaker. The real hot setup on these is for apartment home theater...put a couple under your couch, put rubber isolators under the feet, and the bass is there for you, but not for your neighbors.
There are others, mainly designed for bass, but they either don't work, or aren't suited for cars.
Google Clark Sound and /or tactile sound tranducers...its pretty cool stuff, and will soon be demo'd in a vehicle near you :-)

these are nice - i just put a pair in s2000 - it really makes up for what you loose in a convertable.

Bass shakers are extremely effective at giving you the impression of bass when coupled with some decent midrange speakers. They are brutal on power consumption though(we saw 15-20 amps at moderate volume)
Be careful where you place them though, if you get carried away they will catch the knock sensor or send weak panels into a frenzy.

Bass shakers might work, but they are a really poor example of the technology. They are very inefficient, inacturate, and only work in a very narrow frequency range. The were made to 'emphasize' bass, not really reproduce sound.
I'm putting a pair of the Clark's in our Escalde, along with a really strong 6 inch two or three way component set, on a smallish 4 channel amp. Won't set any db records, but I expect it to sound great, and take up no useable space.

my main reason for asking is that i already have enough subwoofer and amp in my car, i jsut want to feel a little more "punch" or concusion. for instance when im listeing to say, lamb of god... All the subs do is give a little punch and a lot of bass, dont get me wrong there punchy (2 10" in sealed box) but im missing alot of the kick in the seat. so hence i want seat shakers. how well did they work out in the s2k? how were they mounted?
Thanks again fellas,
-Shane

I wouldn't mind adding these to my truck, just for the extra kick..

They Worked Excelent - Pulled The Seats And Mounted Them Directly To The Metal Frame Of The Seat - They Cleared Everything And The Seat Had Full Movement. I Ran Them Off The Same Sub Amp As The 12 In The Back They Were 4 Ohms And The 12 Was A Dvc So The Amp Is Seeing 4 Ohm Mono Load -

would these have to be mounted directly under the seat frame like you would a recliner, or can they be mounted TO the frame and still work? Do these work like dual-shock PS2 controllers with a wight on a motor or are these like some kind of magnetinc speaker type thing? all the pictures ive found i have no ideal what im looking at besides the amp that comes with them.
Thanks guys

Go to
Clark Synthesis Tactile Sound U.S.A. (http://www.clarksynthesis.com/)
These, imo, are the only one's worth using. Their site has lots of good info.

Thanks Toby, that seems to be more like what im looking for rather than "bass shakers". There werent any prices listed though, has anybody purchased from these guys? Any idea what a small setup for an S13 would cost?
Thanks again,
-Shane
