Alright, I jsut installed my HC2000 the other day. I rode around for a while today giving the system a good beating, and then tonight it seems as if the Kinetik died on me. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/images/smilies/eyebrow.gif It started acting like it wasn't there, lights dimmed and amps cut out like before. My first though is my alt isn't big enough to charge that and the red top (stock 140amp). Any input?

you have a 1000/1 and a 300/4, HIDs, and you are wondering why your stock alt couldnt keep up?

Do you have a charger at home? I charge my car every few days or so just to make sure the system hasnt pulled my battery down.

Any reccomendations on what size Alt to get? I was thinking in the 250-300 range.

how about you charge it at night or drive with the volume down for 30 minutes?

Can't really charge it, but I can drive with volume down for 30 minutes lol.

Thats all you need to do in the future. a 140 amp alternator will supply p[lenty of current if you turn the volume down, dont run the wipers, ac, or heated seats, and dont race the engine for 30 minutes or so ones a week.

Also, since you seem to be $ inclined, you might want to look into a solar trickle charger that will slowly charge your battery during sunlit hours. You mount it in your rear window and its about 12"x8" big.

I don't think a solar charger works well with 5% tint lol.

put it on ur windshield, on the lower passenger side or sumthing

the one i was thinking of was 15 watt and wouldnt work in the drivers window - there are smaller 4 - 6 watt ones that would work in the front windshield.

New car dealers use the 4-6 watts trickle chargers to keep the batteries charged during transit and storage.

Nigel's Eco Store Solar car battery charger 1W (http://www.nigelsecostore.com/acatalog/solar-car-battery-charger.html)

thats a low end one that will keep your battery charged if you use it 8 hours a day such as while you are at work.

a man no matter what you do... the system will die down... a 2nd battery isnt always the case... the only bad part about that is that you can kill the alt. but in most case that isnt always the answer.. having 2 batterys is also making the alt work hard and trying to put back the Amp that you sucked out with the system.. just for a couple days out of the week charge the batterys.. but when charging start with the back battery. not the one in the front of the car... ill help you out if you have anymore question.. later man

extension cord + charger + wire it in the car so you can lock it all up.

I got a chance to stick my hand down by the battery to check for loose connections, and to my discovery the ground was 100% disconnected, fell off its terminal (guess I should of checked that wire, I made it a while ago though).

You have all of this --

- H.I.D. Conversion
- HU: Eclipse CD5000
- Front Stage: Rainbow CS 265.25 Germanium
- Amplifier: JL 300/4
- Subwoofer: Eclipse 9122 (2)
- Amplifier: JL 1000/1 (2)
- Stinger Wiring

And you dont even have a solid ground connection!?!?!

hahahahaha, nice:D

there is no ground connection to the alternator - gm cars use the starter ground tbmk. are you sure it wasnt your positive?

Lmao, nah I just grabbed a 0 gauge wire that had already been crimped and connected it up and the wire slid out of the crimp?? I looked at the terminal.....seemed to be almost all the way down so iono? O well it's fixed now lol.
