Hey ppls, i was wonderin what would be the most reliable for power on a 1989 Camaro with a 5.7 ltr 4 barrel engine. I am not sure what superchargers are compatible with my engine. If possible if i could be linked. Thanks alot. I need as much information as i can get. I am trying to look to buy one by the end of next month.
Thanks!

Your help is much appreciated!

Stock '89 engine? I'm not too versed on these engines, but if I recall, '89 was a year for weak horsepower, and subsequently, weak parts. I'd be willing to bet you've got a cast crank, HEI ignition, and a bunch of other parts that wouldn't lend themselves to being blown. If it's like a 350 crate, you could probably strap a small Holly/Weiand on top of it, just as long as you were smart about getting your carb and you ignition tuned to match.

Not sure, but this might help you figure out what you have there:

1989 Chevy Camaro '89 - ThirdGen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org/1989-chevy-camaro)

None of the stock drivetrains came with 4 barrel carbs, so you might have a crate or a carb swap. Did you ask the previous owner?

Get ready to read a bit...

Heres the thing. The seller of the car was a owner of a auto-repair shop. The REAL owner brought the car in for repairs. Well....the owner was not able to pay for the repairs...so consequently...the owner of the shop had to keep the car. He sold it to me for the cost of the repairs only to cover the cost he had spent on repairing it. So in other words...i have no contact what so ever with the actual previous owner. So im jumping into a pool of question with this motor. There are many minor things wrong with it...but it still runs strong. I had a blown spark wire...so i replaced them all...now the car should be running on all 8 cylinders...but im not sure. Anyhow...i really dont know how to tell if the 350 in it is a swap or not. Sorry for writing u a book LoL. Your help is much appreciated thank you!

okay if its a 350 that came stock in that car the engine wouldn't be carb and the 8th dig on the vin would be a 8 also..cast cranks can take some power, but i would swap rods out or at the very least put some arp 220psi rod bolts in it...now as for superchargers the best on the market is ati in my opinion.

u could just save your money and go n/a and get the same amount of power out the engine realy..

if it was me i would put heads, cam and intake and exh on it first before anything else.

Check out your casting number against this site, you'll learn a lot about the year and origin of the motor:

MorTec, Inc. Chevy Smallblock V-8 Casting Numbers List (http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm)

And listen to ghost. Heads, intake, cam, etc... will all generate the same power as a blown low-end V8, cost less or the same, and be more reliable than strapping on a blower. Check the head casting numbers too, you might not even needs heads. Shit, check everything, intake, carb, etc...

yep that site will give u a good idea about what u got and so on..u will be shocked with how much power u can get from just heads and cam..go to racing junk.com and look for heads and cams u can find a whole top end on there for like 1200-1500$ right now used seeing how race season is over now.

how many miles are on the car? Do you really want to push a worn motor to its limits? Do a compression check on it and make sure everything is running perfect before you try to bolt more horsepower to it. Motor that isn't 100% + power adder = headaches

Say the engine ran like shit. How much is a good racing engine that is street legal, but still gives much hp and torque? Im thinkin about just takin this shit out and droppin a crate.

run the block numbers on the engine..if it truely is a 350 then dont do a crate unless it has a ton of miles on it..i can tell u a simple pump gas combo that will get u 500hp n/a..a stock chevy crank can take over that and the rids will to if u swap rod bolts out..

the block number will be on the back top lip of the block on the drivers side.then run that on the mortec page and see what year the engine is and so on.

alright, it said its off of an 84 chevy truck. I will have to run the numbers again to be specific, im just rememberin off hand what my old man told me. But yea, i would love to know that 500 HP tweak :)

And it is a 350. 5.7 ltr

u probley got a 64cc head on that engine..the compression is probley like 9-1 on it if its out a blazer..u can go to a 58cc head and run a roller cam around ..580 lift lobe if its going to be a a street car i would go with a 112 durtion wise go for like a 250-260 range.but do a roller cam, lifters and rockers it will free up power and plus if u ever want to go more radicule down the road u only got to swap out cams.heads i would go with a rhs/pro actions and do a single plane intake,,edelebroke is makeing the best right now for the price range..run like a 355 or 373 gear and for trans wise it really depends on how much u will be driving it..for the stall i would run like a 3400 but that depends on the cam u chose..carb a 4150 750 holley will work fine..i would run 72 and 78 jets in it.

the top end will run u about 2000$ and thats with the heads, cam, rockers, intake and lifters new.
