Here is a pic of a Honda Del Sol that we will be turbocharging using our LHT400 Kit. These two, show the engine bay before any work by us has been done. We will update it as we go. :)
This has a stock JDM Type R engine swap, the compression is 11-1 from the factory so the plan is around 270whp ( 7-8 psi).
We will also be building and installing one of our 3" Stainless exhausts.

This will be on Display at the LHT Open house , See it in person. Dec 17th

Updates 12/6/2006
The exhaust manifold had been removed for test fitting the Turbo and manifold. It also give us chance to clean up the engine bay . Note the thottle cable has ben replaced with new the right size.

The intercooler is mounted keeping the bumper support, It is a Precision AS1025 ( 600HP) which has been our favorite , We have used this intercooler over 600whp and it's performed fanatstic.

Manifold and turbo are installed with the oil feed and drain. The manifold if a shorty tubular ( on the LHT Type R) which allows for a true 3" downpipe. This is AC compatble , it has ample room for the factory AC fan so everything functions. The manifold is Thermal coated black , This helps with under hood temps.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k231/lhtperformance/DSC00047.jpg

The downpipe has the Waste gate routed back into the exhaust .This is not only sounds better but makes it easier to hear other things that might go on under the hood. Some say this is restrictive, We have used this method on 600 + HP cars.

Next we build in the intercooler piping, It is 2.5" Aluminum . Aluminum is not only very light but helps disapate heat lke a radiator. We bead roll the ends and use 4 ply silicone connectors to prevent pipes blowing off.
The customer wanted the pipes polished and a greddy BOV which you will see later.

Could you please explain why you didn't use the typical hole on the outer side of the frame rail for the IC piping? Piping & DP look great!

awesome...i like the step by step look at a turbo build..how long does it take to mock up and weld the manifold and is it a 1st shot and its done or do u have toss some manifolds..either way your shop is top notch...

Some more pictures will be up soon.
Thanks for everyones comments.

Here's some tips when assembling the turbo and manifold. We recomend you use red loctite and lock washers on the bolts holding the turbo to the manifold. These have a habbit of comming loose and there impossible to replace when everything is assembled. We also recomend you replace the exhaust gasket with a new OEM dual layer ( 94 GSR) which has better sealing qualities than the single layer.
You will not need a gasket between manifold and the turbo if the surfaces are 100% true. We always surface the turbo flange and manifold to be sure.
Next , the downpipe. We also surface the downpipe flange and the surface of the turbo. We use HTV ( The red high temp silicone) between the flange and turbo. We recomend the use of antiseize on the bolts for the downpipe. Use high grade bolts ( Not stainless ) and re-torque after a heat cycle.
Another must is a downpipe brace. The downpipe brace needs to be on the back side of the downpipe before the flex joint near the factory O2. This way the downpipe is secure and the flex joint does it's job , Most downpipes crack because there is no brace and the whole exhaust system transfers weight on the downpipe.Even the factory Honda exhaust manifolds have 2 braces, It;s takes a little more time but it's worth it for reliability.

Here's a couple of pixs of some TLC clean upp work. This makes a big differance on the finished product. We used Simple green and a soft scrub bush on the valve cover, Repainted the spark plug cover and replaced the crappy wires with NGK. ( These are proven on many 600+ WHP cars, Don't get suckered into buying 8mm and 9 mm funny colored wires)

Also you can see the exhaust system that was removed , We will be replacing it with our 3" full Stainless mandrel bent exhaust. Ours should look a little nicer and the welds a little smaller.......

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k231/lhtperformance/DSC00054.jpg
There exhaust was a typical " Muffler shop special" exhaust, It uses crush bent 2.5" piping and theres no joins . We had to cut the exhaust for removal.

I'm telling all of you guys that LHT is the REAL deal! If anybody has any questions that John doesn't have time to answer or questions about what else has been done to the car, just ask me, seeing that this is my car. I haven't gotten my car back from the shop yet and I still can't stop singing LHT's praises.

Here's the exhaust ready for install. It is made from 304L Stainless and follows the lines under the car correctly. ei has a 90 deg followed 2 45 deg bends.
The muffler was finished off with a 4" slass cut tip which keeps the shape of the bumper.

Shit my teg was worse than that... I was eating up just 2-3" of the inside edge of my tires. Skunk 2 pro... Found it on e bay for like a 150 I beleive brand new.... Tires get expensive after awhile...

Nice install... Most people dont think about the little details like the exhaust tip & shit like that makes or breaks the car in my opinion... slick..

Today the larger injectors went in. We use Precision injectors as they have a great spay pattern which gives a smoother idle and better drivabilty. We are installing 880cc injectors so there room for the future as theres plans to build the motor later.
These are low inpeadance so a resister box needs to be used, We use OEM Honda boxes which can be found on most Hondas 88-91.
The wiring can be found at Hondata.com.
We will be using a Hondata S300 for this Delsol.

The intercooler pipes are now fully polished and are ready to install. We can make the intercooler piping either Satin, Polished and powder coated to suit.
As a nice finishing touch we will polish the hose clamps which only takes a few mintues but looks great.

Today the intercooler piping was installed. We use 4 ply silicone connectors and heavey duty stainless clamps. I don't like the way T bolt clamps look . These clamps with the 4 ply connectros and bead rolling the piping will hold more boost pressure than the connectors could handle. ( About 100psi)
Just waiting for the misc vacume hoses, raidiater ,gauges and it's ready to to fire up and tune. Then it will be cleaned up and checked over before the customers drives away.

just curious, but did the del Sols not come with a front transmission mount? or did you just leave it off to mock the piping up?

:bigthumb: on the catch can...

This particular del sol did not have one. He has Hasport mounts so he decided to leave it off.

More things happened today.
Here you see we install a Fluidyne radiator with a SPAL fan. SPAL is pretty much the best fan you can lay your hands on,they are OEM for many high end Italian super cars. The fan we used is a 13" slim line fan which moves 870 CFM ( This is rated installed on a 2" thick core radiator) , the stock is around 600 CFM.
We stock These fans.
Many over look the cooling system on a Turbo vehicle, Not only is the engine now making more horsepower but the air flow is restricted by an intercooler.
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k231/lhtperformance/DSC00090.jpg
These fans are designed to be either a puller or pusher, They are not a universal cheapy auto parts fan.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k231/lhtperformance/DSC00091.jpg

Just for that little extra we built the fan bracket from aluminum and polished the top of the radiator. We do alot of little TLC things when builing projects like this , It not only looks better it shows you really care about what you do.
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k231/lhtperformance/DSC00092.jpg

This shows the amount of clearance we have, Everything fits back in it's place. This setup is efficient to around 450whp and has a full 3" down pipe, an intake tube , AC, OEM over flow tank and it looks like it belongs.

If you look close you can see there is a support bracket for the intake tube, Without this, the silicone connector in time would split and the intake and filter would rub and rattle inside the engine bay. Take you time and don't over look the little things that add reliablity.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k231/lhtperformance/DSC00094.jpg

A before and after pic....Enjoy.

what numbers will you be estimating to run ,hp ,tq also how much psi??

MrLHT
12-13-2006, 05:51 PM
The motor is a stock JDM B18C which is 11 to 1 compression so we'll keep ir around 8-9 psi which should be around 280whp with a safe tune.

MrLHT
12-16-2006, 01:28 PM
OK , Car is done and ready go!

At 8.5psi the car made 298 whp and 200 TQ. We kept the timing conservative and the AF at 11.8 with no boost creep or ping.

See this car at our Open House tomorrow 10am -2pm.

Stay uned for the K20 Turbo into a 98 Civic coupe.
