Default Help !!!!

So my parent's have a 96 Monte Carlo. Well we have been having a couple of probs with it lately. When you accelerate it will take a second or 2 to shift into gear. Usually it shifts into gear around 2K but has been going up to 3k or a little higher and then when it shifts the rpms will go back down where they should be. It only does this here and there. Also it only does this in 1st gear all the other gears are fine. Any ideas ?

What do you mean it takes a second to shift into gear when you accelerate? Are you trying to say that when it downshifts, it takes a second to do so?

Default no

No like I said. Sometimes if you accelerate the speedometer will not move but the RPMS will revv higher and then if you let off the gas it will shift into gear . This only happens in 1st.

Do you know what type of trans it is ? Chances are it is a 4L60e. What is the Milage? There is a few things that could go wrong. VSS Sensor,or worse case bands and hard parts. You should check the fuild to see if it is burt.If the color is dark there are some issues there. If you want bring the car by the shop and ask for Jim (Master Tech from GM). No charge to check it out.

172 miles and first gear is now slipping? You do have a goldie! Go get the transmission serviced for a few hundred bucks and enjoy the car for another 150k miles

....WOW. That many miles huh. Check the Vin that should be a W body. That means they put that trainy in a lot of different typs of cars. Check with Kevin at Pro-trans 813-964-0852. He might have lying around.
