I was curious if anyone here can fix an amp for me or if you can point me in the direction to someone who can.

Please dont say get a new amp. I got the amp for free and I have heard it work and I was happy with it.

The amp is a XS100 Kicker competition. The problem with it is is that it keeps blowing fuses. Not on the amp itself, but the distribution block. If anyone can take a look at it and let me know if it is fixable or not, I would greatly appreciate it.

I just dont have the money to buy a new amp and I really dont want to as long as this one is fixable.

PS: I know mostly everyone hates Kicker products, but can we leave this one on topic. I really want to get this amp fixed. Thank you.

Well check that the fuses can even handle the amp draw thats going through the line(s)? there might be a reason right there. Fuses dont just blow because they hate themselves one day. They are there for safety purposes, the fact that they blow is showing that there is a safety issue that needs to be addressed, we need more details or take it by Toby's shop or call up notladstyle.

hmmm a kicker amp wont work... I wonder why.

But seriously, I would open it up and check for metal scraps across one of hte FET chips. I had an amp once that I left in car while I was using an air saw on some paneling and a tiny tiny piece of shrapnel managed to make its way into the case.

I spent 3 hours troubleshooting before I finally opened it up and found the culprit.

of course, before that, check that the line you are running is good, the terminals are secure and that you are using spade conenctors on the ends.

Well, the same thing was happening when he hooked up a old Rockford BD800. It is doing the same thing.

I am not too sure what might be going on, but we just hooked up another amp in his car and it is fine. Nothing was changed. Just put another fuse in and it was working fine.

I am not an electronics genious, so opening this amp up is the easiest thing, but seeing if there is anything wrong with it might be the problem. I wouldnt know what I am looking at. That is why I ask if I can bring it to someone to see if its even fixable.

chi-town - have you measured with a multimeter??

LS1 - with a multi meter, check for continuity to ground from the power line. also remove the distro block, and use a NEW fuse block - you can pick one up from a stereo shop for 10 bucks.

LS1Fever - Is this the amp you have?

http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Kicker_XS100/outside1.jpg

If it is, it has 3 40 amp fuses for a possible 120 amp draw....

If you are running less than 100 amp fuse on smaller than 4 gauge wire, theres your problem.

Run atleast a 100 amp fuse, better off with a 150+, on 4 or 2 guage.

chi-townsfinest - You probably have an ohm issue.... Let us know wiring configuration and model numbers for better help.....

That is the amp I have. He is using all 4 gauge wire and has a 150amp fuse holder.

Just because that is capable, doesnt mean thats what it's drawing.

Are you noticing the fuses blowing when you turn it up high or just when you turn it on at all...?
