View Full Version : Line converter question
I am using a high/low converter on my setup since I am still on the stock headunit. I bought the 2 channel converter from Circuit city even though I am only using 1 channel for the sub.
For the converter input I soldered wires to the + and - of one of the rear speakers.... ran the wires to the converter and still not getting any kind of output from the amp.
There is an extra black wire coming out of the converter plug... do I need it grounded? I grounded it out and it didn't help....
Amp is getting good power + ground, still no go

Did you solder both channels to the rear speaker or just one?

solder both channels into the LOC box, hook both RCAs into the amp and bridge the output to the subs. Dont drive an amp unbalanced(as in using only one channel). While I dont know why, I have seen amps go bad from this and ive heard similar advice.
Ground the black wire only if you are getting a hum from your sub.

you need to do BOTH rear speakers on the converter. thats why they have 2 sets of speaker inputs on it
Well found out what the problem was, wasnt the converter.... and both channels are on the converter.
Anyways.... seems like its a problem with the sub

No you don't. The only reason you'd have to hook up both speakers was if you were looking for a distinct left and right signal (stereo). He's running one sub (not as though you would be able to tell a difference with 2 subs anyways.) but a 2 channel amp powering actual speakers is where that'd come into play.

his class d amp sums two channels - using one channel would make for weak sound that would disapear on one side :p

Thats what happens when you buy stuff off TR ;)

im just surprised that someone would sell the ADMIN of the forum fukd up equipment. that calls for a lifetime ban, a ban of the parents, children, their children, and a week ban for their children.
Or, just ban the whole subnet of the seller's ip hahahha

The ground was not a problem, my ground was temporary on a bolt/nut that was on the chassis without being sanded on the surface..... it was getting ground but we made it better than he came since it didn't hurt.
I am not blaming the person I bought it from at all, it will be fixed shortly.
Umm, don't ever come near me.
hahaha
Yeh Kirk its not just people on TR, unfortunately its just car audio stuff in general... Buying used just sucks. You're playing with huge odds and most of the time they aren't in your favor.
