Soo, when the ricer in you says air bags arent cool, what do you do with that big ugly hole? build a pod!

I'm in un known territory here so many more prototypes are to come. which is cool because it takes 1/3 of a qt to make one.

We are still in the experimentation phase - suggestions welcome, flamers can visit my schlong for fire extinguishment. anyone got a good idea on what material/method to use to get the "flush" look with the dash while keeping it removable?

We are on pod #2 and I have the angle right but shaping & securing it to the dash and still being able to remove it is gonna need a a few more tries to get right.

I think I'd lay the monitor back a little, so its not so in your face. As for making it fit, you could either use an original air bag cover as a base, or make a new panel. I can give you some tips on how to make a new one, but its hard to explain in type.

we will have to check it out in person, its further back on hte dash than it seems, theres about 3" between it and the window.

The stock piece is basicly a piece of vynly and is very flimsy. And as you can see theres a curve at the bottom so im at a loss as to what to use that can flex like that.

Use the vinyl cover as a mold. Cover with foil, layer on your fiberglass. It may not be perfect, but it will get you real close as far as shape needed.

I would say lean it back more as well, is there anyway you can lower it to or is there something in the way?

the vynlye cover isnt the correct shape - it was reshaped when the airbag deployed.

It matches up with the dash where it is - lowering it would look weird but we'll at hte meet what people think.

Can't lean it back more without it touching the windshield.

Can't lower it without taking the airbag out, something we really want done. Unfortunately they are attached with large Tamper Proof bolts, something thats hard as fuck to find the bit for.

you can always just drill out the bolts

airbag brackets are quite difficult to drill out.

I'm hoping toby has the bolt or something applicable to remove it.

they are "tamper proof" style bolts, shaped in a huge star and have a thick pin jutting out in the middle. was kinda lucky found a bit set at advanced auto that they arent even supposed to sell but the bits were a tad too small.

No offense, but that thing is hideous. The way it is in that pic, the passenger isn't even going to be able to see out the windshield. Would be interesting to see who gets to it first though...the theives or the cops. I'm with Toby, you need to REALLY stream-line that thing.

I have a set of torque bits that have the safety pin in them if this is the type of security screw your talking about.... Ill bring them to the meet today..

You can see out the window fine - and hopefully the final piece will be a little more.. curvy. We just wanted to get some video in that boring bitch. And the unfinished pod beats the ugly hole that was there before.

Once we can get the airbag bracket out we will have a lot more options as to what to do with it.

sprjit22 - if you have those bits, that would rock.

Any tool truck sells the bit you need. I check with my snap on guy and he showed me the correct one to use. I didnt ask how much they sell for. Just thought I would point you in the right direction.
