Hey guys. I was wondering if I should get the L7's... I was intrested in JL Audio W7's, but they said I would need this $1000 amp and all that and then I will need a new alternator, when I already have two 12's running in the back with a cap... but anways lol... do you recommend the L7's? Thanks a lot for your time!

Well L7s are ALOT cheaper than W7s....both sound like shit. Fi Qs, Eclipse TIs, SI Mags, all those subs can out perform both of those subs in SPL and will blow them away in SQ. There are many others as well.

while i may not be the biggest fan of jl, their w7s are phenomenal speakers, sq and spl-wise... a long way from sounding like shit.

the l7's on the other hand do blow donkeys.

W7s and L7s arent even in the same class of subwoofer.

what the hell ghetto ass rip-off W7 were you listening to? it must have been blown or something because i've heard some extremely good sounding + loud W7's.

L7's on the other hand are extremely loud but dont sound quite good at all in my opinion.

but they said I would need this $1000 amp and all that and then I will need a new alternator,

Who's "they"?

l7s are very loud subs, as said above there not as clean as the w7 though.. but honestly if your going w7 id for sure go eclipse titanuim first..

Yes I love my TIs, ya'll might see them in action Sat.

But I was listening to brand new W7s each off a JL 1000/1 ported in a magnum (3 w7s). Very wooshy sound, very good SPL though.

I think I know that guy, if so, I've worked on the car a couple times. Box is too small.

The w7 is easily one of the best subs out there, but you're gonna pay for it. As far as L7 vs. w7, they both require near the same amount of power, so needing a high output alternator would apply to both. Although the w7 will murder the L7. You may want to look into the w6, it requires half the power of the w7 and is very impressive as well....spl-wise, I'd say it's as good if not better than the w7.

The Purple Magnum on color matched floaters? with like 4 Eminence speakers in each door? Now that you do mention it, it was kinda of a small box, it was all fiberglass though, after displacement it couldn't of been more than 3 cubes. I got almost 4 cubes for my 2 subs alone.

And yea, I have heard W6v2s, and would buy them all day over the W7s.

I guess personal preferance. But you can get 2-3 W6v2s for the price of one W7 and they sound better plus bang pretty hard too.

The w6's go head to head with the w7 spl-wise. But the w7 has it's nuts in the sq department. I'd personally take a couple w6's over a w7, mainly because they require less power to get them moving.

I ran both the 13W7's and the 13w6v2's and i would definetly say the w6v2 is the better of the two. The sq is definetly better on the w6v2 the spl is about a tie. But either way the both kill the L7. Hands down.

2 w6s might be a match for one w7

L7's are good speakers, i have 4 of them and 1 solo-x and they slam, but like stated in earlier post, sq is not nearly as good a a w7 would be, solo's put out a RAW thump, i personally would go with the w7 if you have the money and you don't need a $1000 amp to push it, you can find QUALITY amps that push out the power necessary to power your subs

and you don't need to get a more powerfull alt. i've had 2 solo 12's and 1 solo-x in my civic with just a second battery and my lights don't even dim. if you have the money tho, and want the xtra power, i would definatly buy one.

And how many watts were you running (true rms)? 1000 rms and over is really pushing it. I've seen cars turn off because their weenie alternator couldn't keep up. Your car is drawing the brunt of the power from the alternator when it is running. I know most Hondas have miniscule alternators and even smaller batteries (it's like a tractor battery).

^^What he said, I'm running close to 2500k right now and my car can barley handle it, and I have a 140amp alt, with big 3 and 0 gauge to the trunk. (Can't wait for that 200amp alt)

i got a kx1200.1 watt running 2 of my solo-barics OR 1 solo-x. and a kx800.4 running my highs, and i have never had a problem with my system. i've been running this setup for about 4 years or so now. since the square solo's came out. if i had the money i would definaly buy a new altenator but i'm broke so what i have have been doing fine.

you people have no idea about true power output. a 140amp alternator would not maintain 800 watts of true power yet alone 2,500,000 watts

the727kid
11-13-2006, 10:05 PM
Why don't you back up your reasoning with some fact?

For some reason I don't find that to be true at all, basically because 2 different amps pushing the same wattage will put a different draw on the alt.

Yeah i agree, 2 million watts pretty much powers a house for a couple of months. I'd be surprised if your car was capable of this.

ok well the amps are from KICKER and kicker tests ALL there amps b4 they send them out and you get a birth certificate showing the wattage of them amp. and that certificate shows that the kx1200.1 pushes 1390 watts, the kx800 i bought was used so i don't know exactly what thats pushing, so explain to me how big of an altenator i would need to push that then?

the727kid

200 alt should be enough, that's all I am going to get and I have a lot more stuff to power (system wise and car wise).

You do realize when you say 2500k ... you are saying 2,500,000.... the "k" means thousand you dork :P

in order for your statement to be correct you'd have to say "2.5k"

I've yet to see a stock Honda alternator push over 1000w without atleast light dimming. The lights usually dim when you turn the a/c on in those things. You must have the gains turned all the way down and listen to classical music.

JL over any other shit anyday, i have one 15inch JL w3 with a 1200 class d on it and it puts down 139 db's. I've had L7s but the corners wore out. The only problems i've ever had with jl is that the wires burn out on the sub. it all depends on what its going in....

Maybe that's because you're giving the sub more than twice it's recommended power. :crack:

the only problem i ever have with the L7's is burning up voice coils from playing my system for too long and letting the shit heat up, that why i bought the solo-x. i just need a bigger amp for it now, the kx1200.1 pushes it but nothing like a kx2500.1 would and the 1 solo-x i have hits just a little bit harder than 2 L7's
