Directed Electronics is going to buy Polk. While I guess this could be good, I remember what happened to Orion and Precision Power...

Ah, Polk's been on it's way out for awhile now. Surprised they've hung on this long.

Yet another nail in the Polk mobile coffin...

Directed is buying them primarily for their home stuff.

A massive audio company, most people don't recognize their name though because they usually keep the name of the company they buyout.

DEi makes most every alarm on the market.

The polk rep came into work the other day and I was asking him what would happen to the polk lineup since DEI bought them out and he pretty much told me that polk is still going to be run the same as before because the majority of the things DEI wanted was their home audio equipment.

Well that sucks. Polk's home audio stuff is (or was) better than their car audio.

Having been through a couple of acquisitions in my previous career, the first line (or lie) you get is...things will be run just like before.

From DEI's history with Orion and some others, I'll be surprised if Polk car audio is still the same stuff in a year.

It is possible that car audio will be left alone, but not likely. If they really only wanted the home stuff, the burden on car audio to 'make numbers' might be even greater. The easiest way to make numbers in the short term is cut cost, which almost always takes quality and customer service with it.

Hmm, I own all 3 of the Polk "MOMO" series amps. Got them for a great price through a friend who worked at Circuit City.
